Maintenance Mechanic (Day + Night Shift)

The Maintenance Mechanic ensures that all production and facility equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently in a high-speed beverage packaging environment. This role focuses primarily on mechanical systems with some basic electrical work, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of equipment while supporting production needs and continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that facility equipment and machines are properly maintained and operating correctly to support safe and efficient production.
  • Oversee the facility's maintenance program by identifying, analyzing, and resolving equipment and machinery failures in a timely manner.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all production and facility equipment as directed to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot and repair high-speed filling and packaging equipment, including bottling lines and associated systems.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical equipment such as fillers, case packers, conveyor systems, palletizers, water purification and filtration systems, and other production equipment.
  • Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot production equipment and instruments as assigned, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Support all production needs by leading and assisting with production line changeovers, focusing on improving speed and accuracy of product changeovers.
  • Execute work orders on time and in the proper priority as assigned by the planner/scheduler or management.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to operators and other team members to promote proper equipment use and basic troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate work performed by outside contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure quality and timely completion of projects.
  • Continuously improve preventive maintenance plans and processes to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in all work areas during and after maintenance activities.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of maintenance shop and parts storage areas as assigned.
  • Always work in a safe manner by following all established safety rules, regulations, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Use basic electrical tools, including volt meters, to perform simple electrical troubleshooting and tasks as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall facility operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience required.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills, with approximately 80% of the work focused on mechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic work on 480V motors and 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting, including the use of a volt meter and reading electrical schematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting high-speed filling and packaging equipment, including bottling lines.
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting at a basic level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing equipment and system issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to manage work orders and maintenance tasks effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to work effectively with production teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive actions such as bending and stooping.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to access and navigate all areas of the production facility.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to commute or a plan to relocate before starting work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a beverage, food, or similar high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with bottling, filling, and packaging equipment in a co-packing or contract manufacturing setting.
  • Welding skills are a plus but not required for this role.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment.
  • Experience with calibration of production equipment and instruments.
  • Comfort working with both mechanical and basic electrical tasks (approximately 80% mechanical, 20% electrical).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while coordinating with planners, schedulers, and management.
  • Capability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for periods of time for documentation and planning tasks.

Work Environment

The role is based in a high-speed beverage co-packing facility that operates in a non-climate-controlled environment, which can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The building is relatively new and very clean, with operations that include manufacturing, packaging, and warehousing activities. The facility runs high-speed filling and packaging lines and uses various mechanical and electrical systems, including conveyors, fillers, case packers, palletizers, and water purification and filtration systems. Fans are placed throughout the facility to help circulate air, and the operation emphasizes safety and Good Manufacturing Practices. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toed boots, ear plugs, and safety glasses. The role involves spending significant time on the production floor, standing for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 pounds, as well as accessing all areas of the production facility. Some tasks may also require sitting at a desk and working on a computer for planning, documentation, and communication.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Concord, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $38.00/hr.
