Regulatory Compliance Specialist

$51k - $80k

LMI Consulting, LLC

508 Compliance Specialist Job Locations US-Remote ID 2026-14439 # of Openings 1 Overview LMI is seeking an experienced Section 508 Compliance Specialist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) enterprise contact center technology training initiative. This is a remote position responsible for ensuring that all training products and project deliverables provided to VA are designed, developed, tested, remediated, and delivered in accordance with applicable Section 508 accessibility requirements. The Section 508 Compliance Specialist will work across the entire curriculum development and training production team, including curriculum designers, curriculum writers/editors, multimedia developers, instructional designers, technical SMEs, and training operations personnel. The position will serve as the project team's primary point of contact for accessibility matters and will coordinate directly with VA staff as appropriate to clarify requirements, resolve accessibility issues, and support acceptance of training products. The Specialist will evaluate deliverables in multiple formats, including documents, presentations, PDFs, videos, multimedia, e-learning content, graphics, and other digital learning products intended for deployment through VA's Talent Management System (TMS) or other VA-approved platforms. LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed. Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors-helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value. Responsibilities The Section 508 Compliance Specialist will provide end-to-end accessibility assurance throughout the curriculum development lifecycle rather than functioning solely as a final-stage compliance reviewer. The specialist will establish accessibility standards and quality-control procedures, advise development team members on accessible design practices, conduct automated and manual accessibility testing, document findings, coordinate remediation, and validate corrected products prior to delivery to VA. The successful candidate will understand that accessibility must be incorporated into the design and production process from the beginning and will work closely with multimedia developers, curriculum writers/editors, and curriculum designers to prevent accessibility issues before products reach final review. The Specialist will also maintain appropriate compliance documentation and test results and serve as the project-level subject matter expert and liaison for VA accessibility requirements. Key Responsibilities Establish and maintain the project's Section 508 compliance strategy, standards, procedures, and quality-control processes. Review applicable VA accessibility requirements, standards, guidance, and acceptance criteria and translate them into actionable requirements for the project team. Serve as the project team's primary Section 508 compliance point of contact for the VA training program. Coordinate with VA's Section 508 Office and other designated VA accessibility stakeholders regarding requirements, testing, findings, remediation, and acceptance. Participate in curriculum design and production activities early in the development lifecycle to identify and prevent accessibility issues before final production. Develop accessibility checklists, testing protocols, review templates, and compliance documentation for use across the project. Conduct accessibility testing of all deliverables prior to submission to VA. Test training products across multiple formats, including: Microsoft products, PDF documents, video and audio products, screen recordings, e-learning modules, etc. Review multimedia content for appropriate captions, transcripts, audio accessibility, visual information, and other applicable accessibility requirements. Evaluate e-learning and interactive learning products for keyboard accessibility, focus order, navigation, labeling, alternative text, and other applicable accessibility characteristics. Review videos and screen recordings to ensure that instructional information communicated visually is appropriately represented through captions, narration, transcripts, or other appropriate accessibility mechanisms. Identify accessibility defects and document findings in a clear, actionable manner for the responsible developer or content owner. Maintain accessibility test records, remediation logs, compliance evidence, and final validation documentation for project deliverables. Establish and maintain a traceable relationship between deliverables, test results, identified defects, remediation activities, and final compliance disposition. Support VA review and adjudication of accessibility findings and coordinate responses to VA accessibility feedback. Track recurring accessibility issues and develop corrective or preventive recommendations. Conduct periodic accessibility trend analysis to identify systemic issues requiring changes to development processes, templates, or team training. Provide accessibility awareness and production guidance to project team members as needed. Support project quality reviews, sprint reviews, curriculum demonstrations, and deliverable acceptance activities when accessibility considerations are relevant. Remain current on changes to Section 508 standards, federal accessibility guidance, VA-specific requirements, and relevant accessibility testing practices. Perform other accessibility assurance activities necessary to ensure that all project deliverables meet applicable VA requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in information technology, accessibility, instructional technology, digital media, communications, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 3+ years of professional experience supporting Section 508 compliance, digital accessibility, accessibility testing, or comparable accessibility assurance activities. Demonstrated knowledge of Section 508 requirements and federal digital accessibility standards. Demonstrated experience testing and remediating accessibility issues across multiple content formats. Experience using automated accessibility testing tools to evaluate digital content. Experience conducting manual accessibility testing in addition to automated testing. Experience evaluating Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDF documents for accessibility. Experience evaluating multimedia and video content for accessibility, including captions and transcripts. Experience evaluating e-learning or web-based learning content for accessibility. Experience identifying accessibility defects, documenting findings, coordinating remediation, and validating corrections. Demonstrated understanding of accessible document structure, including headings, reading order, alternative text, tables, hyperlinks, navigation, and other applicable accessibility elements. Demonstrated understanding of multimedia accessibility requirements, including captions, transcripts, audio, visual information, and accessible presentation of instructional content. Experience working collaboratively with instructional designers, curriculum developers, technical writers, multimedia developers, and technical SMEs. Ability to translate accessibility standards into practical guidance that content developers can apply during production. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables and accessibility reviews simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain accessibility testing documentation and compliance evidence. Ability to work effectively in a remote, highly collaborative, and deadline-driven environment. Ability to obtain and maintain any VA-required access, security, or background investigation requirements applicable to the position. Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs programs or other federal government accessibility initiatives. Experience supporting accessibility compliance for VA Talent Management System (TMS) content or comparable enterprise learning management systems. Experience testing SCORM-based or other LMS-compatible learning objects. Experience with accessibility testing tools such as PAC, Adobe Acrobat Accessibility Checker, Microsoft Accessibility Checker, ANDI, WAVE, axe DevTools, or comparable tools. Experience with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver and other assistive technologies. Experience establishing accessibility standards and reusable accessible templates for large enterprise training programs. Knowledge of WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2, including Level A and AA success criteria applicable to the project's deliverables. Familiarity with federal accessibility standards, including the Revised 508 Standards and applicable U.S. Access Board requirements. This position is ideal for an experienced digital accessibility professional who combines strong technical Section 508 expertise with the communication and collaboration skills necessary to embed accessibility into a complex enterprise training-development program. The strongest candidate will not approach accessibility as a final inspection performed immediately before delivery; instead, they will actively partner with curriculum designers, technical writers, multimedia developers, and SMEs throughout the development lifecycle to ensure accessibility is incorporated into the product from the beginning. The ideal candidate will be comfortable testing a wide variety of products-from Word documents and PDFs to videos, screen recordings, e-learning modules, and interactive learning objects-and will be capable of clearly explaining accessibility defects and helping developers remediate them efficiently. Experience working directly with VA accessibility stakeholders will be particularly valuable. Ultimately, the successful candidate will help ensure that the training curriculum is not only technically accurate and instructionally effective, but also accessible, compliant, TMS-ready, and usable by the full VA workforce. Target Salary Range: $51,000 - $80,000 Disclaimer: The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is not a guarantee of compensation. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, skills, and security clearances. #LI-SH1 Job Locations US-Remote LMI is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
