Schedule :
Monday - Friday, Days (approx 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, can fluctuate based on study needs). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Education Qualifications:
2 Year / Associate's Degree, preferred. Certification Program in lieu of Associate's Degree accepted.
Graduate from a formal Cardiovascular Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, preferred.
Required Experience:
Two years of adult echocardiography experience required.
Experience with use of imaging enhancement agents, bubble studies or other specialties.
Licensure/Certification:
Registered Cardiac Sonographer, credentials RDCS or RCS. Required BLS certification.
Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
Job Duties:
35% The Sonographer will conduct diagnostic exams on patients participating in clinical trials with an echocardiogram test using sound waves to create live images of the heart. As an echo technologist, cardiovascular health will be measured by viewing blood flow and valve movement with the echocardiogram. The Sonographer performs adult echocardiography studies and recognizes, calculates, interprets, and analyzes the hemodynamic data obtained from echocardiography studies.
35% As our Cardio-Oncology and outpatient rapid access clinic efforts expand in the Division, this Sonographer may also be deployed several days per week in the outpatient setting to support those efforts in surrounding clinics.
20% The sonographer completes required training, documentation and administrative tasks as required to support the clinical trials team. The sonographer will be responsible for making IS requests for DICOM images and uploading these images to the sponsor provided platforms specific to each clinical trial. Completes feasibility, training and competency requirements for study sponsors as required for individual study protocols.
10% Schedules and communicates directly with clinical trial subjects. Works with MUHA sonographers and leadership to coordinate in-patient or post-procedure TTE requests.
Additional Skills (required): Ability to successfully complete department-specific and research protocol-specific validation and competency testing. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)’ age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient(s)’ requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Considerable verbal ability to effectively communicate observations and input to research staff, physicians, and other department staff. Familiarity with PACS (or current MUSC system) and EPIC EMR preferred.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
