Physician Assistant Primary Care PACT (Baraboo)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Duties Middleton Veterans Hospital employs Physician Assistants in the Primary Care Service Line The Physician Assistant is an integral part of the primary care team and is called upon for several important duties The Physician Assistant (PA) is an individual who is a graduate of an accredited PA program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Medical prescribing privileges for controlled substances can only be granted in accordance with the Federal Controlled Substances Act and applicable regulations In order to prescribe controlled substances the health care practitioner's state of licensure or registration must permit the practitioner to do so PA acts as an agent of the supervising physician within the identified scope of practice The Primary Care PA assists in preparation of the patient, including teaching, accumulating data and medical problems, and presenting patient-centered discussion of medical problems with the supervising physician Major duties (but not limited to): maintain medical record entries that reflect the patient's healthcare Act as the focal point of the designated outpatient clinic by being the contact person for all other consultant-specialty services regarding patient care Ensure that the care is coordinated and communicated to the patient Provide services as directed to meet the needs of the patient population served by the medical center Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the Madison VA Hospital Demonstrate knowledge of changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon physical‑psycho/social‑cultural‑safety and other age‑related factors as noted in the competencies described in departmental and/or until specific policies and procedures Demonstrate expertise in all elements of the patient's health care process; perform history and physical examinations to industry standard Perform duties within scope of practice to the standards set forth by the supervising physician Use effective decision‑making and leadership in the application of patient care Perform special examinations as assigned by the Section Chief Primary Care; perform these examinations in accordance with established guidelines/protocols Maintain clinic schedule and inform proper parties of the same Maintain lines of communication between referring hospitals so that referrals are made without problems Attend learning sessions which will foster better care Guide patients and families in obtaining the best services and information from internal/external sources Assist with the total care of patients' medical needs including performing history and physical examinations Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, X‑rays, electrocardiograms (EKGs), evaluate results, and provide necessary follow‑up care Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities Initiate and expedite requests for consultations and schedule special tests and studies Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs Act within the guidelines established by scope of practice Work schedule: Monday‑Friday – Day Shift Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
