Our client, a global technology company specializing in advanced positioning, modeling, and data analytics solutions across industries such as construction, agriculture, geospatial, and transportation, is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist to join their payroll operations team. This role is critical in supporting a complex, multi-state and international payroll environment, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across all payroll tax functions. The Payroll Tax Specialist will oversee and manage all aspects of multi-state and international payroll tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliation. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert on payroll tax matters, resolving complex issues, partnering with cross-functional teams, and driving process improvements through technology and best practices. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in payroll systems, deep knowledge of evolving tax legislation, and a proactive approach to audit readiness and year-end reporting.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in payroll systems, deep knowledge of evolving tax legislation, and a proactive approach to audit readiness and year-end reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage payroll processing and tax operations using ADP, SmartCompliance, Workday, and WFN platforms.
- Oversee multi-state and international payroll tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliation activities.
- Resolve complex tax issues, agency notices, and W-2 discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Stay current with new and changing tax legislation and implement necessary updates to payroll systems and procedures.
- Calculate and process retroactive tax adjustments and file amendments (W-2c's) as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and leverage technology to enhance payroll tax efficiency and data management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate processing and full compliance.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of all federal, state, and local tax filings by statutory deadlines.
- Reconcile payroll general ledger and tax liability accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Maintain comprehensive audit documentation for internal, external, and government audits.
- Update payroll software/systems and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) reflecting current legislative requirements.
- Verify and distribute year-end tax statements (W-2s, etc.) accurately and on schedule.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, OR an Associate's degree paired with 5+ years of payroll tax experience, OR CPP/FPC certification.
- Hands-on experience with ADP, SmartCompliance, and Workforce Now (WFN).
- Proven experience overseeing multi-state payroll tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliation.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Demonstrated experience resolving tax-related issues, agency notices, and W-2 corrections.
- Ability to reconcile payroll general ledger and tax liability accounts on recurring cycles.
- Experience preparing and supporting internal, external, and government audits.
- Workday payroll experience.
- Experience managing international payroll tax compliance.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) credential.
- Experience leveraging technology and automation to drive payroll tax process improvements.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with finance, HR, and legal teams.
