Job Summary

Join our dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team in Gardner, Massachusetts, as a Registered Nurse. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-acuity care to critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and life-sustaining interventions.

As an integral member of our multidisciplinary team, you will utilize your critical thinking and clinical expertise to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive nursing care. You will manage complex patient cases, administer specialized therapies, and collaborate closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing interventions and patient care plans.
• Provide direct patient care in accordance with established standards of practice, protocols, and policies.
• Administer medications and intravenous therapies safely and accurately, including vasoactive and critical drips.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac arrhythmias and EKG changes, initiating appropriate interventions.
• Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including initiation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and weaning.
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases and pulse oximetry, addressing impaired gas exchange.
• Assist with and monitor hemodynamic procedures, including arterial and central vein cannulation.
• Implement and monitor thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy protocols.
• Conduct comprehensive pain assessments and reassessments, documenting responses and escalating concerns to physicians.
• Provide ongoing assessment and intervention for post-operative patients, managing potential complications related to various types of anesthesia.
• Educate patients and families on health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team on discharge planning, incorporating necessary support systems.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by other team members.
• Prioritize patient care effectively, recognizing the need for emergency interventions.
• Maintain thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all patient data, interventions, and responses.
• Participate actively in daily multidisciplinary rounds to plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care.
• Proactively identify and report risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical errors.
• Implement and adhere to VAP (Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia) bundle protocols.
• Complete medication reconciliation documentation for attending physicians.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent telemetry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of Med-Surg experience.
• Previous Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience.
• Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in cardiac arrhythmia and EKG interpretation.
