Assistant Clerk – State of Maine Judicial Branch Location: Sagadahoc County Courthouse, West Bath The State of Maine Judicial Branch welcomes motivated team members to serve the communities of Maine within the court system. The Judicial Branch supports this mission in its various roles across 31 courts statewide. Position Overview This role involves clerical work in a Clerk’s Office and courtroom, processing civil, family, and criminal cases. The Assistant Clerk will interact extensively with the public and attorneys, utilize multiple computer systems, and manage office equipment. A full‑time schedule will support diverse life needs. Responsibilities Docket, process, and file matters before the Court Communicate effectively with the public, judges, attorneys, and other agencies Schedule pre‑trial activities, trials, motions, and other proceedings Handle and process fines, fees, and costs paid to or through the Court Serve as courtroom clerk and perform duties as required by the judge Prepare abstracts and reports for various agencies Operate electronic recording machines and maintain appropriate logs Participate in jury management activities Perform other varied duties as requested by the Clerk Qualifications High school diploma or GED At least two years of customer service and/or clerical work/office administration experience (college coursework may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis) Accurate keyboard skills – minimum 45 words per minute Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills Ability to learn detailed computer applications Excellent attention to detail Proficiency in computer software programs such as MS Office, demonstrated by training, education, or work experience Salary Range Starting pay: $22.21 – $23.35 per hour. 2% increase July1,2026. Grade10: $22.21 – $30.13 per hour.
