Full-time Audiologist, 11-month teacher at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center (Clerc Center)—Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) Provides audiologic assessments and amplification evaluations for students; provides information for the development of IEPs; works collaboratively to meet student needs related to audiological and speech and language assessments; monitors students' use of listening technologies (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants); serves as a resource person to classroom teachers and other service providers; consults with students and families of students regarding maintenance and use of listening technologies; engages in national service activities to share information and effective practices for working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Job Description:
- Performs audiological, hearing aid and cochlear implant (CI) evaluations to for purposes of IEP eligibility determination; performs hearing aid and CI evaluations to assess benefit from listening device use; interprets evaluation results to teachers, other appropriate school personnel and parents; takes earmold impressions to assure appropriate earmold fit and selection.
- Provides comprehensive hearing aid and CI maintenance and management services.
- Reviews and recommends equipment to be purchased for student IEP accommodations.
- Provides parent and student counseling, education and information regarding the educational impact of deafness and appropriate accommodations to ensure accessibility.
- Responds to requests for information from parents, students, professionals, and other individuals as appropriate.
- Contacts agencies to obtain information and assistance for purchases and repairs of amplification devices.
- Contributes to the development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and participates in IEP conferences related to educational impact of deafness, self advocacy skills, accessibility and required accommodations.
- Provides direct services to individual students or classes of students related to their ear health, hearing status, and listening technology use.
- Checks inventories and updates equipment and materials.
- Supervises audiology practicum and intern students.
- Provides professional development workshops and participates in national service activities; develops materials for student use, family education and dissemination.
- Provides lectures and/or presentations to campus groups or Units.
- Gathers and shares up-to-date information for teachers, staff and families on issues specific to audiology, spoken language and deafness.
- Improves personal, professional and cultural competencies by engaging in appropriate professional development activities as well as attending pertinent workshops and conventions including those that address topics of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community which reflect recognition of, sensitivity to and respect for every individual regardless of their identity in areas such as race, class, ethnicity or gender.
- Serves as a resource to staff and team teachers.
- Documents all national service contacts and activities according to established procedures and timelines.
- Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
- Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
- Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
- Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
- Performs related and other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Audiology
- Licensed as an Audiologist in D.C., or eligible for licensure and acquire upon hire. Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
- Experience in Audiologic assessment, hearing aid evaluations, and hearing aid and cochlear implant management.
- Experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to communicate in American Sign Language or willingness to learn.
