We are seeking a Biomaterials Production Lab Technician to contribute to the development of the ZEISS Interocular Lens (IOL) by performing compounding and mixing of chemicals to create the buttons in which IOLs are formed. Responsibilities Comprehensive understanding of applicable MSOPs, QCSOPs, GMP, and line clearance requirements. Maintain proper documentation per GDP by correctly filling out work orders and recording accepted and rejected quantities. Keep workspace clean and organized. Visually inspect defects and record rejects on the Device History Record (DHR). Perfom biomaterials formulation mixing processes with accuracy. Perform SAP confirmation of materials used during material formulation. Capture critical data from curing, extraction and drying processes and upload for verification of design specifications. Demold biomaterial sheets from heated glass molds with minimal damage/rejects. Process biomaterial sheets through a semi-automated punch and die with proper alignment to maximize yield. Perform button extraction with methanol in Soxhlet extraction setup and monitor extraction status. Perform silicone tubing and gasket extraction. Perform methanol and hydrophobic button isolation (shakeout) and drying processes. Load drying ovens and initiate programs; verify correct process and parameters. Inspect, confirm final quantities and package finished buttons. Perform dimensional inspection for button diameter and thickness. Conduct physical inventory of raw materials and supplies; upload inventory to database. Submit Material Request Forms or Kanban forms to maintain raw material inventory. Monitor raw material inventory levels and submit scrap form requests for destruction. Escalate any process non-conformances to leads, supervisors, or quality control. Ensure finished product meets quality standards and specifications. Communicate production, quality or safety issues with Technicians, Leads and Supervisors. Working knowledge of applicable Standard Operating Procedures and supporting documentation. Ability to use commonsense to resolve challenges and carry out instructions. Basic algebra and basic statistical analysis of data sets, including standard deviation related to quantities and chemical concentrations. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Regular movement: walk, sit, stand, bend and twist. Some lifting and carrying of equipment up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception; ability to adjust focus. Repetitive hand use with controlled grasping and fine manipulation. Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities. Chemistry-related bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or chemistry-related associate degree with twelve to eighteen months of related experience and/or training. Previous experience in pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing is a strong plus. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Compensation & Benefits The hourly pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00. The pay offered may be influenced by factors such as location, role scope, qualifications, education, experience, complexity, and talent availability.
