About the Role
Responsible for providing "pharmaceutical care" which is defined as the responsible provision of drug therapy for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improves a patient's quality of life. Interacts with physicians, employees and patients throughout the hospital. This position will care for patients in the neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Licensure or other certifications: Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy. Registered Georgia Pharmacy license required.
- Educational Requirements: Pharm. D. from accredited college of pharmacy.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide customers with prescribed medications in an accurate and efficient manner to enhance the health of the NGHS Community
- Perform analysis to ensure correct entry of each medication order including processing all medication orders for completeness, accuracy and dosing schedule. Communicate with providers for any questions concerning a medication order or non-formulary requests.
- Follow departmental policies or processes and USP 795/797/800 best practices around the preparation of sterile and nonsterile drugs.
- Actively participate in the Clinical Pharmacy Service to provide the customer with quality pharmaceutical care.
- Provide drug information to health care providers after an appropriate review of evidence-based literature
- Demonstrate basic pharmacokinetic skills, perform clinical monitoring, consult management, and profile review for assigned patients. Assure that all patients are updated on a daily basis and patients are explained the pharmacy's role in managing their outcome.
- Collaborates with Clinical Pharmacy Specialists to support drug distribution and optimize medication therapy outcomes.
- Provides medication education to patients and families, as appropriate
- Enforce use of NGHS's Drug Formulary by contacting physician with a formulary alternative when a non-formulary drug is written.
- Participate in identifying and investigating adverse drug reactions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement and its application to patient care and actively participate by monitoring assigned indicators monthly and giving input and ideas to improve the pharmacy system.
- Communicate effectively with Physicians, nursing staff, pharmacy personnel and other hospital staff to provide quality care to our patients.
- Supervise technician productivity and provide guidance and training in a respectful and considerate manner to ensure the efficient operation of the pharmacy.
- Take ownership of problems by reporting issues to appropriate hospital staff to achieve desired outcome. Involve supervisory personnel when necessary to reach goal.
- Responsible for the proper handling and distribution of controlled substances to comply with federal and state regulations.
- Train pharmacy personnel.
- Responsible for fully reading and complying with department email(s), (i.e. communication) upon receipt of such communication.
- Complies with pharmacy and NGMC policies and procedures.
