Computer Technician

The Computer Technician serves as a member of the team responsible for administration and maintenance of technology systems and services throughout Stafford County Public Schools. The Computer Technician performs key roles in the maintenance of server and network infrastructure, as well as the deployment, administration, and maintenance of IT-managed endpoint devices. The Computer Technician provides technical support for site-based technicians and may assist with the documentation and training needs of SCPS technology systems.

  • Troubleshoot technology issues, follow-up with affected staff, and coordinator with support vendors as required.
  • Work as part of the Engineering and Operations team to manage and maintain the division's server and network infrastructure.
  • Work as part of the Engineering and Operations team to manage and maintain the division's endpoint device deployments across its sites.
  • Facilitates the repair and upgrade of hardware by troubleshooting problems, performing simple repairs, and/or sending equipment out as required.
  • Organizes, schedules and responds to support requests in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the installation, maintenance, and operation of a network, as needed.
  • Assist sites as needed with the acquisition, inventory, and distribution of software and hardware, ensuring that the appropriate requirements are available and adhering to licensure guidelines.
  • Serves as a liaison between school-based technicians and the Department of Innovation and Technology.
  • Assists with technology projects managed by the Department of Innovation and Technology as needed.
  • Facilitates the implementation of the Division's and School's technology plans.
  • Attends technical training hosted by the Department of Innovation and Technology.

Education Attainment (Required): High School Diploma or GED

Education Attainment (Preferred): Relevant Experience (Required): Two (2) years of job-related experience.

Relevant Experience (Preferred): Technical support certification (CompTIA A+ or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware, and software.
  • Ability to effectively train users of multiple proficiency levels in the operation of technology systems.
  • Able to adhere to district Technology guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Able to efficiently research technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.
  • Organizational skills needed to work on multiple projects while meeting all deadlines.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position.
  • Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly.
  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance and dress appropriate to position and duties.
  • Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
  • Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Work in close harmony with supervisor(s) and colleagues.
  • Comply with all division policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality and professional conduct, as well as all site-based procedures and protocols.
