Mortality Specialist- PRN

Location: METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER Biweekly Hours: 8.00 Shift: Weds - Friday 3-4 hours morning/early afternoon - as needed Summary Responsible for activities associated with Mortality Service, including care after death and communication that addresses the needs of family members. Collaborates with MetroHealth System providers to explain available autopsy services and honor patient/family permission for autopsy. May perform or assist with the performance of autopsies. Serves as a liaison between the decedent's family, hospital administration/the Pathology Department, and funeral directors. Upholds the MetroHealth System mission, vision, values, and customer service standards. Qualifications Required: Associate’s Degree in a biological science or Ohio Funeral Director/embalmer license or equivalent experience in a similar position for a minimum of three years. Familiarity with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Ohio and the Medical Examiner’s Office. Proficient in medical terminology. Computer keyboard proficiency. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work independently on detailed‑oriented tasks. Problem solving and decision‑making skills. Preferred: Graduate of an approved School of Mortuary Science and one year of experience in a mortuary environment. Physical Requirements Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day; sit or stand for extended periods as needed. Must see in the normal visual range (with or without correction) and hear in the normal audio range (with or without correction). Must have finger dexterity to operate office equipment and be able to lift up to twenty‑five (25) pounds on occasion. Must be able to push/pull up to 400 pounds on a mortuary cart throughout the hospital and communicate via face‑to‑face, phone, email, and other means. Must tolerate exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, chemicals, and flammable liquids. Shift Specific Physical Requirements First shift: Ability to lift 30‑50 pounds up to the shoulders, and 50 pounds above the shoulders; lift and transport 15‑45 pounds, including multiple items with or without assistance. Transfer up to 400 pounds from a morgue cart to an autopsy table with or without assistance. Push/pull up to 300 pounds on a flatbed cart throughout the hospital with or without assistance.
