Clinical Nurse Supervisor

Report directly to the Warden or Facility Administrator for daily clinical operations within the medical department. Manage and supervise daily nursing and clinical activities. Supervise nursing and non-licensed healthcare providers in the performance of their duties. Evaluate as prescribed by facility and corporate policy, including training new employees and preparing performance appraisals. Listen to complaints and effectively resolve disputes or problems. Take corrective or disciplinary action as needed. Develop work schedules for subordinates and approve leave requests. Provide direct patient care as indicated within the scope of licensure. Apply appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of patients. Provide for adequate staffing at the facility. Fill in as needed during periods of short staffing. Perform nursing duties as required, including executing physician's orders and assisting physicians in examinations. Dispense and administer medications, treat emergencies, and screen patients for referrals. Perform intakes, triage, and physical assessments. Direct emergency care and procedures as needed, contacting the Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders. Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. Provide guidance and supervise nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff. Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff and contract providers. Utilize established corporate, facility, and correctional policies in decision-making while using sound independent judgment. Regularly evaluate medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Assist with the review of medical files to ensure all services provided are documented. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses. Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as required. Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, particularly regarding controlled substances. Observe and record patient behavior. Inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband; securely store or dispose of supplies as needed. Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as required. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of standard records, reports, and logs, processing all documents in a timely manner. Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, regulations, and legal documents. Review, process, and respond to lawsuits, attending court hearings as necessary. Facilitate accreditation of the medical program by providing approved medical services. Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures. Take appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
