The Specialist is responsible for providing an instructional program (including curriculum and assessment design) designed to assist teachers in developing skills in the preparation of effective learning (lesson) plans, presentation of content, and classroom management. The Specialist will assist with the implementation of best practices in the classroom through demonstration lessons, observation of teachers who are changing instructional practices, reflective sessions following observations, facilitating PLC’s, and professional development activities. Qualifications Required: Valid Colorado Principal or Administrator License Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire Endorsement/Credentials in assigned area: English Language Arts or Elementary Education Master's Degree in Education or educational related content area Five (5) years of successful teaching experience in instructional area: English Language Arts or Elementary Education Valid Colorado Driver License Employee must complete a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary Preferred: Previous Coaching experience Master's Degree in education or related field Experience teaching with the CKLA instructional resource or supporting its implementation Experience with district curriculum and assessment development Experience in coaching teachers and/or facilitating professional development for teachers and leaders Experience leading data team meetings and/or professional learning communities and professional development Experience developing Scope and Sequence documents Experience in Pueblo School District No. 60 curriculum adoption process Skills and Knowledge In‑depth understanding of the Colorado Academic English Language Arts and Social Studies state standards, curriculum and assessment programs with emphasis in English Language Arts Demonstrated success in the use of data to improve instruction Experience in preparing and presenting high quality, research based professional development Effective verbal and written communication within the district and externally with the community Organizational and planning skills for setting goals and coordinating efforts Strong interpersonal skills, building trusting, collaborative relationships Initiative and independent work capabilities Professional and approachable manner with district colleagues and school staff Resource organization to support teachers and schools Provide direct contact to classroom teachers, reviewing data, co‑planning, co‑teaching, real‑time coaching, modeling best practices Knowledge of developing scope and sequence and assessment documents Ability to integrate technology into instructional practices and programs Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies into scope and sequence documents aligned with instructional objectives Perform assigned duties as directed by supervisor or designee Responsibilities Responsible for scope and sequence, professional development, and ongoing support of Elementary Social Studies as needed Oversee READ Act plans and budgets at building and district level Provide ongoing support for READ plans, including professional development of leaders, teachers, and instructional coaches Work with Human Resources and school supervisors to ensure educators and leaders are trained and certified in Literacy professional development requirements Coach teacher leaders, teachers (regular and special education), and administrators in leading district initiatives regarding intervention programming, pedagogy, and improved instruction Collaborate with principals on supporting individual teacher development and improvement Review assessment results by school and participate in development of improvement plans Lead and facilitate curriculum design process including district instructional frameworks and assessments; implement with principals and school leadership Assist teachers with using assessment data to plan instruction Assist teachers in developing and implementing effective classroom management strategies, behavioral intervention plans, instructional planning, and organization Provide direct contact to classroom teachers, reviewing data, co‑planning, co‑teaching, real‑time coaching; model instructional practices and provide follow‑up support Provide professional development for teachers as needed in curriculum and ancillary materials Participate in textbook adoption and development of local assessments Integrate technology into instructional practices and programs Facilitate district and school‑based professional development and Data Meetings and PLCs Assist in identifying, acquiring, and organizing resources to support teachers, students, and schools Develop scope and sequence and assessment documents Coach secondary English Language Arts and Social Studies teachers Strong knowledge of Colorado Academic English Language Arts common core standards and instructional shifts Knowledge of Social Studies standards including recently adopted Colorado Standards Additional Information Physical demands: employee required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, use telephone, and operate computer keyboards.
