As Phlebotomy Technician, you are an integral member of the Medical Laboratory Team. Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. This PRN position offers flexibility and provides opportunities for growth, with the ability to move to other teams internally, work in processing, inpatient or outpatient departments or into a leadership starting as a team lead.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working varying shifts between 4:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. with weekend requirements.

This caregiver will be required to float, supporting multiple locations, including Lutheran Hospital, Avon Hospital, and Fairview Hospital.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.
• Verify order requests and identifying information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
• Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
• Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging.
• Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.
• Provide support for ICU patients when working in the inpatient lab.
• Float to multiple locations.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Formal Phlebotomy Certification

Physical Requirements:

• Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
• Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
