Senior Backend Engineer [Remote]

This role sits at the core of a modern, technology-driven insurance platform focused on rebuilding how insurance products are designed, delivered, and experienced. The engineer will contribute to highly scalable backend systems that power critical customer journeys, including quoting, policy management, claims, and integrations with external data and financial services. Working in a remote-first and highly collaborative environment, this position offers the opportunity to shape architecture, improve system reliability, and directly influence business-critical capabilities. The work spans API development, distributed systems, and data-intensive services, with a strong emphasis on performance and scalability. Engineers in this team are expected to take ownership of end-to-end systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders. This is a high-impact role where technical decisions directly shape product quality and customer experience.

Accountabilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power core insurance workflows, including policy management, payments, claims, and data integrations.
• Develop internal tools and system improvements that enhance engineering efficiency, reliability, and scalability across the platform.
• Own and evolve system architecture, contributing to decisions on service design, infrastructure, and long-term technical direction.
• Integrate with third-party services and data providers to support real-time insurance and risk-related decisioning.
• Improve system stability, performance, and scalability across business-critical applications in production environments.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver end-to-end features and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and mentorship activities to elevate engineering standards across the team.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional experience building production backend systems, ideally in distributed or cloud-based environments.
• Strong proficiency in Go and backend development, with hands-on experience delivering production-grade services.
• Proven ability to design and operate scalable, reliable systems with measurable improvements in performance or stability.
• Experience building end-to-end systems, from design through deployment and ongoing production support.
• Solid understanding of APIs, microservices architecture, and system design principles.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-driven mindset with the ability to work independently in a remote or distributed team environment.
