Job Description Job Description Garrison McKinney Tree Services is seeking a dependable and safety-minded CDL Driver / Equipment Operator / Groundsman to join our tree service crew. This position is responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles, hauling equipment and debris, assisting with tree removals, operating machinery, and performing ground support duties on residential, commercial, and right-of-way tree service jobs. The ideal candidate has a valid CDL, experience operating equipment, strong awareness of job-site safety, and the ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions. CDL Driving Duties Safely operate company commercial vehicles, including dump trucks, chip trucks, trailers, and equipment-hauling vehicles. Transport crew members, tools, logs, brush, debris, and equipment to and from job sites. Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections. Secure equipment, loads, trailers, and materials according to DOT and company safety requirements. Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, fuel records, and required paperwork when applicable. Follow all traffic laws, DOT regulations, company policies, and safe driving practices. Report vehicle defects, maintenance issues, accidents, or safety concerns immediately. Equipment Operator Duties Operate equipment used in tree removal and cleanup, which may include skid steers, mini skid steers, loaders, stump grinders, chippers, lifts, trailers, and other tree service equipment. Move logs, brush, debris, equipment, and materials safely around the job site. Assist with setup and operation of equipment while maintaining awareness of crew members, customers, property, and overhead hazards. Inspect equipment before use and report damage, defects, or needed repairs. Use equipment in a safe, controlled, and professional manner to prevent damage to property and injury to workers. Groundsman / Tree Removal Duties Assist climbers, operators, and crew leaders during tree removals, pruning, trimming, and storm cleanup. Drag, carry, chip, load, and stack brush, limbs, logs, and debris. Operate chainsaws, pole saws, blowers, rakes, ropes, rigging tools, and hand tools as assigned. Maintain safe work zones using cones, signs, barricades, and traffic control when needed. Help protect customer property, lawns, landscaping, fences, driveways, and structures. Clean up job sites thoroughly after work is completed. Follow crew leader instructions and communicate clearly with the team. Maintain awareness of falling limbs, equipment movement, power lines, traffic, and other hazards. Safety Responsibilities Follow all company safety policies, OSHA standards, ANSI Z133 tree care safety practices, and DOT requirements where applicable. Wear required PPE, including hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw protection when required, high-visibility clothing, and proper footwear. Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, and hazard assessments. Never operate equipment or vehicles in an unsafe manner. Report injuries, near misses, property damage, unsafe conditions, or equipment problems immediately. Maintain a drug-free and alcohol-free workplace. Required Qualifications Valid CDL, preferably Class A or Class B. Valid medical card, if required for the type of driving performed. Clean or acceptable driving record. Ability to safely operate trucks, trailers, and job-site equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects. Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and physically demanding conditions. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a crew. Reliable transportation to work. Must be dependable, punctual, and safety-focused.
