Summary The Marketing and Communications team (Creative, Database Marketing, Marketing and Public Relations) at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), promotes the MFA’s collection, exhibitions and programs through outreach to local, national and international press, print and digital advertising, management of social media channels with over 1.3 million followers, and email marketing. The team is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented intern with strong communications skills and an interest in pursuing a career in marketing and communications. They will also have opportunities to grow their professional networks through interactions with colleagues and interns from departments across the Museum. Over the course of two semesters, the intern will progressively take on responsibility for the Museum’s grassroots marketing efforts. During the fall semester, they will learn the strategies, tools, and processes that support grassroots outreach, and in the spring semester, they will take on a greater role in executing these initiatives with guidance from the Marketing and Communications team. Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Promotions in a fast-paced environment, the intern will become integrated into the daily operations of the Marketing and Communications team, gaining valuable practical skills and workplace experience. The ideal candidate must commit to working onsite up to 16 hours a week, including a mutually predetermined combination of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, (and up to 7 external events per semester with differing time commitments), from September 13, 2026 through April 30, 2027 , as well as attendance at the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development sessions from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Sept 18, Sept 25, Oct 2, Oct 9, Oct 16, Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 6, Nov 13, Nov 20, and Dec 4. Up to 4 hours per week may be completed remotely with prior approval of the mentor. Key Details Compensation: $16.80/hour + $90/month transportation subsidy Term: September 13, 2026–April 30, 2027 Schedule: Up to 16hours per week Deadline: August 15, 2026 Eligibility Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program concurrent with the internship period. Preference will be given to rising juniors and seniors (class of 2027 or 2028) Strong interest in art and the museum industry Excellent writing, organizational and interpersonal skills Knowledge of social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok and interest in staying on top of trending topics and platform updates Proven ability to work efficiently as part of a team and independently. Keen attention to detail and ability to multitask. Confidence to take initiative and pitch new ideas and content.
