Role Description The Litigation Legal Assistant is a full-time, hybrid role based in Chicago, IL, with some flexibility for work from home. This position supports attorneys in trial and appellate matters by preparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents such as pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and correspondence. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing case files, organizing and maintaining electronic and paper records, and assisting with document production and filing in state and federal courts. The role also involves scheduling and calendaring deadlines, court appearances, and meetings; coordinating with court personnel, clients, and other parties; and supporting trial preparation, including assembling binders, exhibits, and witness materials. The Legal Assistant will collaborate closely with attorneys and staff to ensure accurate, timely work product and smooth case management throughout the litigation lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Law and Legal Assistance, including familiarity with litigation processes and court rules.
• Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, and reviewing pleadings, motions, and discovery materials.
• Experience with Administrative Assistance and Calendaring, including managing deadlines, scheduling hearings, and organizing attorney calendars.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Comfort with legal practice management software, document management systems, and common office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• Ability to prioritize multiple matters, meet tight deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience as a litigation legal assistant, paralegal, or similar role in a law firm setting required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience is beneficial.
