Financial Counselor

Job Title and Location Personal Financial Counselor – Alaska (Grade 24) – Work Experience: Required (Financial Counseling) Salary Range: $58,440 – $93,500 annually. Pay may be adjusted based on skills, experience, and education. The position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities Provide personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations, covering the full breadth of personal financial counseling. Conduct one‑on‑one counseling, consult with commanders or other providers/staff, give briefings and presentations, and refer participants to external resources as needed. Work closely with installation and military branch points of contact to ensure the program meets scope and installation needs. Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences. Develop and make available informational financial materials. Coordinate, publicize, and deliver Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics across the military lifecycle, including arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, and personal and career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34. Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars. Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and secure video teleconference) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office. Manage duty‑to‑warn situations according to Department of Defense protocol. Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the assigned installation. Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned or appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; may consider applicants with an associate degree plus 4 years' experience or a high school diploma plus 6 years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree. 3+ years of financial counseling experience. Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English. English and Spanish bilingual capability required if contract specifies. Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation. Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process. Must hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
