Essential Functions

The Assistant Manager of Consumer Lending serves as a vital operational and strategic leader responsible for driving the growth, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of the department. This role blends people leadership with operational oversight by coaching and developing the lending team, streamlining workflows, and maintaining strong relationships with cross-functional departments, auto dealerships, and third-party vendors. Driven by data and market trends, the Assistant Manager analyzes performance metrics to provide strategic recommendations on products, budgeting, and competitive positioning directly to the VP of Lending. Additionally, the position protects the institution's assets by enforcing strict underwriting guidelines, spearheading continuous improvement initiatives, and managing quality control and audit readiness.

Qualifications

Experience & Education

• Lending Experience: 5+ years in consumer lending, underwriting, or loan operations, including credit decisioning.
• Leadership Experience: 3+ years supervising teams with a proven track record of developing employee performance.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required; degree in business, finance, accounting, or management preferred.

Technical Knowledge

• Regulations & Compliance: Strong knowledge of federal/state laws, underwriting principles, and operational controls.
• Lending Lifecycle: Deep understanding of loan origination, pricing, processing, funding, and indirect lending.
• Systems & Software: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and lending-related software (LOS, reporting, data-processing).

Core Skills & Abilities

• Data Analysis: Ability to interpret lending reports, identify trend root causes, and provide business recommendations.
• Process Improvement: Skilled at evaluating workflows, implementing operational changes, and measuring outcomes.
• Audit & Risk Management: Experience supporting internal/external audits, regulatory exams, and corrective actions.
• Relationship Management: Ability to build partnerships with auto dealerships, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Project Management: Skilled at managing multiple priorities, tight deadlines, and business relationships simultaneously.
