Position Summary:

Knife River Prestress is seeking an experienced Quality Control Technician to support production quality and PCI compliance activities within our prestressed concrete manufacturing facility.

The successful candidate will independently perform concrete testing, dimensional inspections, product documentation, and specification compliance verification. Candidates should be capable of interpreting shop drawings, using inspection equipment, and maintaining accurate quality records with minimal supervision.

Experience in precast, prestressed concrete, concrete materials testing, or construction quality control is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform ASTM testing daily to support concrete production – slump, air, unit weight, slump flow, static segregation, compressive strength, aggregate gradations and moistures.
  • Inspect prestressed concrete products against fabrication drawings before, during and after casting per established required tolerances.
  • Verify reinforcing steel placement, strand patterns, inserts, embeds, and lifting hardware against approved shop drawings.
  • Perform dimensional inspections and verify compliance with PCI and project tolerances.
  • Document product status by recording and summarizing preliminary, in-process and finished inspection data.
  • Identify and report non-conforming products or processes.
  • Work closely with production personnel to resolve quality concerns and maintain product conformance.
  • Ensure products are manufactured to meet specifications.
  • Support plant safety initiatives and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Precast concrete manufacturing
  • Prestressed concrete manufacturing
  • Concrete materials testing
  • Construction inspection
  • Construction quality control
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Basic understanding of concrete properties and testing procedures
  • Ability to accurately collect, document and report inspection data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Must be able to lift material samples of 75 lbs. approx. 10 to 15 times per day and on occasion more depending on duties required.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Strong communication skills and positive interactions with a variety of customers.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, physical/functional exam and drug screen.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude towards all team members and customers.
  • Reliable Attendance is a must!

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering and statistics background helpful, but not necessary.
  • PCI Quality Control Technician certifications (I, II, or III)
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade 1
  • ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
  • ACI Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician
  • ACI Aggregate Testing Technician - Level 1
  • Current WAQTC Certifications
  • Oregon DOT Quality Control Technician (QCT)
  • ICC Reinforced Concrete Inspector
  • Experience with PieceTracker, Stonemont, Smartsheets or similar quality management software

Preferred Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates will have prior experience with:

  • Concrete batching and production
  • ASTM test methods
  • Shop drawing interpretation
  • Reinforcing steel inspections
  • Prestressing operations
  • PCI quality standards
  • Manufacturing inspection processes
  • Root cause problem solving

This is a hands-on inspection position within an active prestressed concrete manufacturing environment. Candidates should be comfortable working both in a test lab setting and throughout the production facility while interacting regularly with production crews, supervisors, engineers, auditors, and customers.
