Human Resources Generalist

LHH Recruitment Solutions is searching for a Human Resources Generalist for a contract to hire opportunity in Norfolk, Virginia.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Human Resource Generalist handles employee relations guidance, performance management, investigations, company policy and practice guidance, required training compliance, employee recognition and absence management (leave, disability, workers compensation) for a designated group of departments within the larger company. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. This position is considered an essential function to the operation of the Corporate Office, therefore, consistent attendance is an essential function of this position, as it directly impacts the employee's ability to perform their duties effectively and ensures proper workflow and communication within the team.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as a resource by leading and providing guidance on employee relations, training, benefits, and compliance matters.

Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

Handles employment-related inquiries from employees, and supervisors, escalating where appropriate.

Conducts exit interviews, summarizes findings, and discusses trends and concerns with HR Director.

Manage unemployment claims for departments within assignment.

Support leadership and employees in drafting, documenting, and monitoring progress on performance improvement plans.

Supports the annual performance evaluation process by coordinating timelines, documentation, and feedback from employees, supervisors, and relevant stakeholders for assigned departments.

Demonstrates working knowledge of employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement, disability, and leave-related benefits.

Handles the LOA (to include FMLA) administration process from the employee's initial notice to the return to work. This includes gathering, completing, and obtaining all required paperwork, determining

leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.

Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave and their supervisor to facilitate smooth and timely return to work.

Serves as a resource for managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.

Oversees the return-to-work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, workers compensation, or other leave(s).

Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.

Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, PWFA, ADA, USSERA and state and local laws.

Serves as a Workers' Compensation resource, providing guidance on claims, compliance, and return-to-work coordination.

Participation in local HRSHRM development sessions, including bringing back key information where applicable.

Participate in hosting employee recognition events.

Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field. 5 years of experience within human resources may be substituted for bachelor's degree.

At least three years of human resource experience.

SHRM (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) and/or HRCI (SPHR, PHR) certification a plus.


$31.25 per hour
