Position Summary

The Manager, Surgical Services is a Registered Nurse responsible for the overall leadership and 24-hour operational oversight of the Operating Room and Central Sterile/Reprocessing (CSR/CSPD) departments. This role provides clinical, operational, and administrative leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care.

The Manager partners with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to promote excellent patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, staff engagement, operational efficiency, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide 24-hour operational oversight of the Operating Room and Central Sterile Services.

· Lead daily OR operations, including surgical scheduling, staffing, workflow coordination, and case progression.

· Ensure efficient utilization of personnel, equipment, and surgical resources.

· Develop and manage staff schedules to maintain appropriate staffing while meeting productivity goals.

· Monitor labor utilization, including premium labor, and implement strategies to improve efficiency.

· Supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate perioperative staff.

· Foster a culture focused on patient safety, teamwork, accountability, and exceptional patient care.

· Oversee supply management, inventory utilization, and cost containment initiatives.

· Analyze departmental metrics and prepare reports related to surgical services performance.

· Lead quality improvement initiatives and support evidence-based practice.

· Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, infection prevention practices, and risk management initiatives.

· Collaborate with physicians and leadership to improve patient flow and operational performance.

· Promote employee engagement and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

· Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

· Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a multi-state compact license

· Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

· Minimum of two (2) years of recent Operating Room/Surgical Services experience in an acute care hospital.

· Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practice and patient safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Master's degree preferred.

· Experience as a Charge RN, Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager, or similar leadership role.

· Experience with staffing, scheduling, productivity management, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
