Agricultural Mechanic

This role keeps field and harvesting equipment operating so crops move from the field into a large seasonal food-processing operation without avoidable interruption. You will diagnose breakdowns, make field and shop repairs, and rebuild and prepare equipment during the off-season.

The best fit is a self-directed mechanic with strong hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting skills who is comfortable working on agricultural, heavy, construction, truck, or mobile equipment. Farm-community candidates who already repair their own equipment and dealership technicians accustomed to field service can be especially successful.

Location: Glencoe, MN

Shift: Off-pack target schedule is four 10-hour days, Monday-Thursday. During pack season, approximately mid-June through the first week of November, the agricultural shift is 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. The normal staffed rotation is 7 days on/2 off, 7 on/2 off, and 7 on/3 off; the first days off may be delayed while startup stabilizes.

Compensation: Typically $28.00-$32.00 per hour, with the ability to go higher based on directly relevant experience, industry background, and tenure.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain pea, corn, and related harvesting and field equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, starting, charging, wiring, sensor, and control issues.
• Respond to field breakdowns with urgency and make practical repairs that restore equipment safely and reliably.
• Maintain an even, sufficient flow of raw product by reducing equipment downtime during harvest.
• Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, adjustment, parts replacement, and inspections.
• Disassemble, rebuild, overhaul, fabricate, install, and test equipment during non-production periods.
• Prepare harvesting and support equipment for the next crop season.
• Read and use service manuals, schematics, parts diagrams, and technical information.
• Track repairs, preventive maintenance, parts usage, and equipment condition accurately.
• Support cost control by using parts and labor responsibly.
• Coordinate with area supervisors, operators, agriculture staff, and maintenance employees.
• Assist with maintenance elsewhere in the facility when agricultural equipment needs allow.
• Follow field safety, lockout/tagout, good manufacturing practice, and company safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on repair experience with agricultural, heavy, construction, truck, diesel, mobile, or comparable equipment.
• Strong practical mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot rather than only replace parts.
• Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and electrical diagnostics.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, diagnostic tools, and service information safely.
• Ability to work independently in field locations.
• Clear communication with operators and supervisors.
• Availability for 12-hour shifts and the seasonal rotation.
• Ability to work outdoors in changing weather.
• Reliable attendance and a safety-first approach.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in diesel technology, agricultural power and equipment, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, or a related discipline.
• Agriculture background or experience repairing personal, family-farm, or commercial farm equipment.
• Field-service experience with John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, AGCO, Caterpillar, or comparable equipment.
• Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Experience diagnosing wiring, relays, sensors, solenoids, pumps, valves, cylinders, and motors.
• Welding, fabrication, machining, or basic electrical-control experience.
• Experience supporting uptime-critical planting, harvest, construction, or fleet operations.
