Headquartered in Pennsylvania, TLC operates across multiple states, delivering K-12 alternative education, comprehensive mental and behavioral health services, coaching, counseling, and trauma-informed training. TLC also partners with school districts, universities, hospitals, police departments, and other nonprofit organizations, providing consultation to secure federal and state grant fundingPosition Summary:The Teacher provides academic instruction and socioemotional support to at-risk youth, grades 7-12, in an alternative school setting. In an open, small classroom environment, the Teacher must demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in serving the individualized instructional needs of the students assigned to the class. The Teacher must be able to work in a team environment with other educators, special education staff, counselors, and social workers. The Teacher should possess a high degree of authenticity, kindness, and empathy while effectively maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to academic and socioemotional growth.Duties & ResponsibilitiesFacilitate LearningDevelop a classroom culture where the Teacher is viewed as “facilitator” of the learning process and not a “lecturer”Plans, prepares and implements lesson plans that facilitate active learningProvides personalized support to each student to develop learning plans that matches each student’s needs and abilitiesUtilizes Project-Based Learning (PBL) techniquesLeverages technology to support and differentiate instructionDevelops a multi-sensory learning environmentFacilitate Socioemotional DevelopmentProvides diverse opportunities to develop and enhance students’ social and emotional skillsPromotes the overall wellness (physical, mental, social, emotional) of each studentConduct AssessmentsAssigns and grades classwork, homework, test and assignmentsMonitors the progress of individual students and uses information to adjust facilitation strategiesMaintains accurate and complete records of students’ progressDevelop Positive Classroom CultureBuilds positive, compassionate classroom communities that engage learnersImplements evidenced based classroom management and positive behavior support strategiesOther DutiesActively participates in department, school, district and parent meetingsInitiates and maintains close contact with parents/guardians of each studentCommunicates information regularly to students, parents, and districts regarding student progress and student needsUpdates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulationsAssesses, records, and reports on the development, progress, goal attainment and behavior of studentsAttends meetings as scheduled and necessary with counselors, other staff and other members of the Public-School DistrictSkills & Knowledge:Leadership and soft skills:Excellent communication and relationship building skillsAbility to work effectively on a multi-treatment teamTechnical skills:Proficient in subject matter taughtKnowledge and experience with Microsoft programsEducation & Experience:Bachelor’s Degree Education requiredNo Teaching Certification is required.Other Duties:This job description does not contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
