1. STANDARDS OF PRACTICE – RN practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015). The standards describe a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by incorporating the nursing process components of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN collects pertinent data, analyzes it to determine diagnoses, identifies expected outcomes, develops individualized plans of care, implements those plans, coordinates care delivery and transitions, promotes health and safety, and evaluates progress toward outcomes.
2. STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE – The ANA Standards of Professional Performance (2015) describe a competent level of behavior in the professional role, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‐based practice, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN is expected to engage in leadership activities appropriate to their education and position, hold themselves accountable to patients, peers, and society, practice ethically, promote culturally congruent practice, communicate effectively, collaborate with stakeholders, lead within the professional setting, seek ongoing knowledge, integrate evidence and research, contribute to quality nursing practice, evaluate own and others’ practice, utilize resources economically, and practice in an environmentally safe manner.

Qualifications Education Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred. All newly hired registered nurses must have current BCLS certification or must obtain it within one month of hire. Experience The Registered Nurse is the foundational job description for all RNs. All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program. Pediatric and psychiatric experience preferred; new graduates with similar outpatient experience are welcome. Licensure Licensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification highly encouraged. Physical Demand Requires prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing, and touch. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Will be exposed to physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end‐of‐life conditions and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care. Standing and walking for more than half the day. Frequently bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting and lifting.
