Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, in an emergency department setting
• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; develop, implement, and revise individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team
• Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately; monitor patients for adverse signs and symptoms and intervene promptly in emergent situations, including implementation of life-saving procedures
• Communicate and coordinate patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members; provide shift reports, transcribe physician orders, and maintain thorough documentation
• Provide patient and family education regarding tests, procedures, disease processes, and discharge instructions; participate in staff in-services and departmental educational programs
• Assist in orientation of new staff and travelers; delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff appropriately; participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings

Required Qualifications

• Valid, current, full, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alaska — must be active at time of submission
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required upon hire
• ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date
• Flu vaccination required
• Ability to make independent clinical decisions, maintain accountability for all actions, and respond calmly in emergent situations
• Proficiency in operating and monitoring basic and specialty medical equipment (e.g., defibrillator, monitors, EKG machines, ventilators, chest tube setup)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience
• Prior experience in an emergency department or relevant specialty area
• TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications
• Experience assisting with emergency procedures such as intubations, arterial line setup, arterial blood gas puncture, and thoracentesis
