Work Arrangement: Hybrid 2 days per week in the office. Tuesdays are required; the second in-office day is the candidate's choice.

Our client is seeking an experienced PowerBuilder Developer to provide ongoing maintenance and production support for a legacy business application.

The immediate priority is to maintain application stability, diagnose issues efficiently, and implement focused, low-risk fixes. While the current phase of the role is centered on maintenance rather than new development or modernization, the application is expected to transition to a newer platform in the future. The selected candidate will have opportunities to broaden their technical knowledge and support the organization's evolving systems and application needs.

Because technical documentation is limited, the selected candidate must be comfortable analyzing and reverse-engineering an unfamiliar legacy codebase rather than relying solely on detailed technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve application incidents and support tickets.

• Diagnose issues involving PowerBuilder, DataWindows, PowerScript, SQL, Oracle, and related application interfaces.

• Analyze existing application code, object inheritance, business logic, and data flows.

• Create and maintain basic technical documentation as system knowledge is developed.

• Communicate clearly about findings, risks, effort estimates, and recommended next steps.

• Support application builds and deployments when required.

• Respond to routine and priority issues within established support timeframes.

• Provide support for other applications developed using C#/.NET .

Required Qualifications

• Five or more years of hands-on PowerBuilder development experience , including production support of legacy applications.

• Strong experience maintaining and troubleshooting existing PowerBuilder applications.

• Advanced knowledge of DataWindows , including:

  • Retrieval and update logic

  • Computed columns

  • Nested DataWindows

  • Composite DataWindows

• Strong PowerScript skills, including event-driven logic and object inheritance involving windows, menus, and user objects.

• Demonstrated ability to debug undocumented or unfamiliar codebases and determine system behavior directly from existing code.

• Proficiency with PowerBuilder tools such as:

  • Object Browser

  • Find in PBLs

  • Cross-reference reports

  • Dependency reports

• Strong SQL skills, including the ability to analyze and tune queries embedded in DataWindows.

• Experience working with Oracle databases or the ability to quickly become proficient with the application's database environment.

• Experience troubleshooting application interfaces and data-processing issues.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to clearly document technical findings, changes, risks, and deployment procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting enterprise applications using C# and Microsoft .NET .

• Experience with applicable web frameworks, such as:

  • ASP.NET Web Forms

  • ASP.NET MVC

  • Web API

  • ASP.NET Core

• Experience with financial applications, particularly fund management, budgeting, or capital-program funding.

• Experience creating technical documentation for legacy applications.

• Familiarity with source control, backup, build, and release-management practices for PowerBuilder applications.

Work Environment

• Standard schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM

• Occasional extended hours on Wednesdays may be required for system support.
