Lowboy Driver

Position Description The Lowboy Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient transportation and loading/unloading of construction equipment. This role requires strict adherence to DOT regulations, company safety policies, and delivery schedules while maintaining accurate records and open communication with dispatch. The driver performs routine vehicle inspections, reports mechanical concerns, and ensures assigned equipment is kept clean and well maintained. This position demands a commitment to safety, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in outdoor jobsite environments. Duties and Responsibilities Safely transport heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, loaders, and scrapers) between job sites and to/from the maintenance shop using a lowboy truck and trailer. Load, secure, and unload equipment in accordance with DOT and company safety requirements. Maintain regular communication with the Transportation Director or dispatch via radio or phone to receive instructions, updates, or new assignments. Verify that all required permits, load documents, and safety equipment are in order prior to transport. Accurately document load details, destinations, and any issues encountered during transport. Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with DOT regulations. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Keep all assigned trucks clean and well organized. Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to the Transportation Director or mechanics. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications CDL Class A license with manual transmission endorsement required. Minimum 2 years of CDL driving experience hauling heavy equipment with a lowboy trailer. Experience operating, loading, and securing heavy equipment preferred. Must be 21 years of age with a clean driving record and ability to meet company insurance requirements. Ability to travel outside of Central Iowa as required. Basic understanding of DOT regulations, permitting, and vehicle compliance requirements. Able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail. Must have good communication skills and professional demeanor. Must have effective time management skills and be able to work independently. Physical Requirements Ability to meet DOT medical certification requirements. Ability to independently lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 lb. Ability to stand, walk, bend/squat, kneel, and twist on a frequent basis. Occasionally crawl. Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial motor vehicle. Ability to climb ladders/stairs and maintain balance while performing work. Ability to work outdoors 100% of the time, including in hot, cold, and wet conditions. This position may require some sedentary duty. Compensation Up to $35.64 per hour, depending on experience. Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week. 100% paid benefits, including health/dental/vision insurance premiums and pension dues, as provided by the Local 90 Teamsters.
