Travel Registered Nurse – Observation Unit (7P–7A)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Travel | 13 Weeks | Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | 12-Hour Shifts | 72 Hours Per Pay Period | Full-Time | Onsite | Must be available to work weekends and holidays

Key Responsibilities

• Perform timely and comprehensive initial assessments and frequent reassessments to monitor patient progress and adjust care plans based on provider orders and clinical judgment.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and diagnostic prep per protocol; monitor vital signs, labs, and diagnostic results, promptly reporting changes and abnormal findings.
• Coordinate care with physicians, case management, and multidisciplinary teams to support timely patient disposition and facilitate efficient admission, transfer, and discharge workflows.
• Provide patient education on diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, and discharge instructions; support safe transitions of care including follow-up planning.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record (Cerner).
• Respond to urgent situations and perform emergency interventions within scope of practice; maintain compliance with infection control standards, patient safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Minimum 1 year of medical/surgical nursing experience; 2+ years preferred.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• NIH Stroke Scale Competency required.
• Telemetry/ECG Competency required.
• Ability to float to Medical, Cardiac, and Neuro-Ortho units as needed.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior telemetry nursing experience strongly preferred.
• Experience caring for observation-status patients with diagnoses such as chest pain, TIA, asthma exacerbation, DVT/PE, cellulitis, or post-procedural monitoring.
• TNCC or ENPC certification (optional but beneficial).
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record system.
