Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work as a hands-on millwright specializing in the repair, installation, and maintenance of industrial and construction equipment. You will dismantle and assemble machinery, transfer and align equipment, and interpret blueprints and schematics to ensure safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, in-depth knowledge of hydraulics and industrial machine mechanisms, and the ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a team.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble and reassemble industrial and construction equipment for repair, maintenance, or transportation.
• Construct and install equipment such as shafting, conveyors, pumps, motors, and related components.
• Review and interpret engineering specifications, schematics, and blueprints to determine work procedures and ensure accurate installations.
• Transfer equipment to appropriate sites for maintenance to prevent contamination and minimize safety hazards.
• Grind, file, and finish machinery parts to achieve proper fit and function.
• Supervise construction workers when they operate or work around equipment to promote safe and proper use.
• Work with a wide range of hand tools, measuring tools, power tools, welding equipment, and brazing equipment.
• Determine appropriate machines, techniques, and tools to use when moving, installing, and repairing equipment.
• Perform rigging activities to safely move and position heavy equipment and components.
• Cut, assemble, and install pipes for fresh water and waste water systems, ensuring proper grading and alignment.
• Repair mechanical malfunctions and perform troubleshooting on pumps, motors, conveyors, and related machinery.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks on construction and industrial equipment to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
• Align equipment and components, including chain guides and shafts, using measuring tools and alignment techniques.
• Use tape measures and layout methods to plan and execute accurate equipment placement and concrete-related work where required.
• Visit various construction sites to perform installations, repairs, and maintenance as needed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a millwright (2–3 years experience preferred).
• In-depth knowledge of construction equipment and industrial machinery.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatic systems.
• Proficiency in working with pumps, motors, conveyors, and mechanical drive systems.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
• Experience with rigging and safely moving heavy equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and repairing mechanical malfunctions.
• Knowledge of layout design and equipment alignment techniques.
• Ability to cut, assemble, and install pipes for fresh water and waste water systems.
• Proficient use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures.
• Experience with welding and brazing equipment.
• Understanding of grading, concrete-related work, and proper installation practices.
• Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate with construction crews.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and perform tasks with little to no supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in construction or industrial environments.
• Experience in preventive maintenance programs for mechanical equipment.
• Familiarity with chain guides, nuts and bolts, and fastener systems used in industrial assemblies.
• Exposure to pumping stations and related infrastructure projects.
• Experience working on fresh water and waste water facilities or similar utility projects.
• Comfort working on job order contract (JOC) projects and rehabilitation (rehab) construction work.
• Ability to supervise and guide other workers in safe equipment use and maintenance.
• Flexibility to travel between multiple construction sites within the local area.

Work Environment

This position is full-time, working an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours per week. The standard schedule is first shift, starting at 5:00 a.m., with minimal overtime and no weekend requirements. Work takes place primarily outdoors on active construction sites, including fresh water and waste water rehabilitation projects under job order contracts. You will report to two main job sites in the Mesa area and may move between locations as project needs require. The work involves exposure to varying weather conditions, construction noise, and typical site hazards, requiring consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and practical work attire suitable for outdoor construction activities. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, welding and brazing equipment, and rigging gear while working around pumps, motors, conveyors, piping systems, concrete, and other industrial components in a hands-on, physically active environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr.
