Senior AccountantThe Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions in support of Moffat County School District RE-1's financial operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with governmental accounting standards, and effective support of payroll and accounts payable processes. The position works closely with the Executive Director of Finance and plays a key role in maintaining fiscal integrity across the District.Salary: $50,000 - $80,000. Actual placement on the salary schedule is based on experience and education.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in the preparation, analysis, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts and financial statementsEnsure compliance with GAAP, GASB standards, and Colorado Department of Education reporting requirementsAssist in payroll processing, including audits, reconciliations, and reportingSupport Accounts Payable functions, including invoice review, coding, and payment processingMonitor and maintain internal controls over financial transactionsAssist with annual audit preparation and coordination with external auditorsSupport budget development, monitoring, and forecasting activitiesAssist in the preparation of required federal, state, and local financial reportsAnalyze financial data and provide recommendations to leadershipMaintain documentation and ensure audit readiness at all timesProvide guidance and support to accounting, payroll, and AP staffKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; equivalent experience will also be considered. Strong understanding of governmental and fund accounting. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience (Required). Proficiency in financial software systems and Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.Working ConditionsPrimarily office-based environment. Occasional extended hours during audit, payroll dates or budget cycles. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods.
