Radiographer Assistant

General Purpose of Job Under the direct supervision of registered radiographers, assists with all radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, including portable bedside exams. Provides support to technical staff by positioning and immobilizing patients, ensuring correct identification and transport of patients to and from the department. Performs additional related duties as determined required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. Demonstrates professionalism in dealing with patients and families regarding questioning, explanation of procedures, and transportation. Greets patients and families cordially and answers questions as appropriate relating to the procedure. Correctly identifies the patient to be transported for examination by checking the patient ID band against the request/orders. Transports patients and families to and from Radiology by wheelchair, stretcher, or in arms. Ensures patient safety during transport. Assists in moving patients to and from exam tables. Under the direction of a registered radiographer, positions patient and equipment for diagnostic procedures. Assists radiographers in the performance of procedures by positioning and immobilizing patients. Processes images into PACS QC. Cleans cassettes with an appropriate germicidal solution following processing. Burns CDs. Answers telephone calls, taking special requests and information. Communicates with radiologists, nursing units, and ED via telephone and in person about patient and imaging study information. Education and Experience Currently enrolled in an AA degree program in Radiologic Technology with at least 6 months of clinical applications in a hospital setting. Must possess the skills and knowledge normally associated with the completion of the first year of formal education in an approved radiologic technology school.
