Automotive Technician Apprenticeship

Job Description

Job Description

Forest Automotive is looking to add a full-time auto technician, and we are open to training the right person. Like a formal apprenticeship, a new hire will start as an entry level tech, while learning the skills needed to master the trade. Unlike most other shops, our system is based on training our techs up continuously, over time. No entry level tech can stay an entry level tech in our system. Our current staff is filled with talented A and B technicians, who all started with us as entry level techs.

Once the apprentice masters the basic tasks (oil changes, tires, NYS inspections), we gradually introduce increasingly complex repair and service writing skills. As the apprentice gains skill and becomes more productive, we will pay them more, and give them more responsibility.

Although professional experience isn't required, an ideal candidate will have experience fixing cars, if only as a hobby. You don't need to be an established professional mechanic yet, but you will need some basic mechanical skills and experience. Almost more importantly, we need character traits like kindness and intelligence, and the mental fortitude to do hard things.

This is an opportunity to learn the trade in a well-run business with an excellent reputation. We are looking for unusual people with the drive to learn our trade, and the maturity to seek a career. We provide better pay and benefits than most shops, because the technician is the heart of our business, and our system requires quality techs who make consistently good decisions. We are successful because our techs are sharp, and they stay with us for the long haul.

About Forest Auto: Founded in 2013 - we treat everyone fairly, and we've still prospered. We are a three bay urban shop that processes between 20-30 cars a day. We are in the Elmwood Village, and of the Elmwood Village. We've worked hard to create a strong reputation over the years, so we are looking for someone who can mesh with our system and contribute in earnest. In exchange, you'll be paid well, and offered the dignity of work both interesting and difficult. We offer at least $50k-$65k a year to start, plus free health insurance, guaranteed weekly pay (no flat rate here), three weeks paid vacation, and paid holidays. Our shop is clean and safe; attitude more punk rock than NASCAR, with equipment well maintained and modern. If the above sounds like a good fit, please apply as detailed below.

Candidates should respond with a resume and a cover letter (written without AI assistance) explaining your desire to become a mechanic, and to work for Forest Auto. No phone calls please. Thank you!
