FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST

Job Summary State of New Hampshire – Department of Safety, Fire Marshals Office. Full‑time Fire Protection Specialist (Program Specialist III), SOC Title 33‑2020 FIRE INSPECTORS‑L2. 37.5‑hour work week, non‑exempt. Summary Plans and coordinates fire prevention procedures of statewide fire inspection programs, including inspecting buildings, conducting plan reviews, enforcing statutes and ordinances, and providing training to fire safety personnel. Responsibilities Conduct plan reviews and inspections of licensed healthcare facilities and other public buildings in compliance with RSA 151:6 II, RSA 153, RSA 155‑A and other statutes. Coordinate with Department of Health & Human Services, design professionals, contractors, and facility staff to achieve state building and fire code compliance. Perform construction plan reviews, verify fire and building code compliance, issue approvals when directed by the Deputy Fire Marshal, and assist with construction project inspections. Promote effective application of State Fire Code by documenting violations, writing inspection reports, and following up with re‑inspections. Conduct training programs for fire safety personnel on fire protection, prevention, and inspection procedures. Confer with city and town officials on fire protection laws, rules, and statutes. Perform fire protection research and code analysis, provide recommendations, and attend meetings and administrative hearings as required. Assist in developing professional and technical fire safety standards under the direction of the Deputy Fire Marshal. Minimum Qualifications Equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after high school in fire science, environmental engineering, building construction, emergency management, fire prevention, fire inspection, hazardous materials, or fire protection. Valid driver’s license. Must pass a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check. Preferred Qualifications Certification in Fire Inspector I, Fire Protection Specialist, or equivalent. Ten years of experience within a fire department, state fire agency, or district fire mutual aid system. After‑Hire Requirements Must obtain full‑time firefighter certification issued by the NH Fire Standards and Training Commission within 12 months of hire and maintain it throughout tenure.
