The City of Brownsville is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Administrative Assistant I to provide essential clerical and administrative support to a City department. In this role, you'll assist with daily office operations, respond to customer inquiries, prepare documents, perform data entry, and help keep the department organized and running efficiently. Please note that this a part-time contract position and is expected to have a scheduled 20 hours weekly.

What You'll Do

• Answer and direct incoming phone calls
• Prepare and edit letters, reports, memos, and other documents
• Perform accurate data entry and maintain records
• Order office supplies and maintain inventory
• Receive and distribute incoming mail
• Assist customers by answering questions and providing information
• Issue permits and licenses as needed
• Support the daily operations of the department through general administrative duties

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED (some college preferred)
• At least 3 months of administrative or related work experience
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills
• Proficiency with basic computer applications and data entry
• Valid Texas Driver's License
