Overview

My Dad is recovering from a fall/traumatic brain injury sustained in December 2025. He has significant memory, judgement, and other cognitive deficits. Since he's a fall risk, he also wears a gait belt for safety.

He needs some supportive cueing at meals to help with a swallowing protocol, and light feeding assistance. Also, consistent standby assistance (always at arm's length) anytime he's standing, walking, showering, or toileting. Light assistance with feet, bottom, and back for showering; cues or occasional light assist for dressing/undressing when needed, etc. The position also includes meal prep and housework. Accompanying/transporting to appointments and other fun/social activities. Engaging him in conversation and fun/ interesting activities around the house.

We're hiring caregivers to help him safely rehabilitate/regain stamina and independence as much as possible. This is an active, engaging position for patient, kind, honest, punctual, reliable, and fit caregivers who will help him with cognitive, speech/swallow, and physical therapy home exercises and to enjoy this season of his life.

Although shifts will vary at times, we're generally looking for coverage as follows:

• Monday to Friday 5-10 pm
• 1-2 weekdays 8:15 am-5 pm
• Saturdays and Sundays 8:15 am-2:15 pm
• Back-up coverage for various day/night shifts when our regulars are off.
• Live-in caregiver willing to exchange free room and board (food reimbursed up to $200 per month) in exchange for 10 hours of caregiving per week.

We require:

• VERY punctual and reliable people who consistently show up for shifts, as our dad can't be left alone.
• Reliable car on-site for every shift, a driver's license, and current car insurance.
• Ability to pass a background check.

If any of the following apply to you, please DO NOT apply:

• Travel to Moses Lake doesn't work well for you.
• The pay we're offering isn't acceptable to you.
• You do not have a driver's license, current car insurance, or a reliable vehicle that you alone depend on.
• You are a smoker of any kind.
• You are unwilling to request time off at least 2 weeks in advance (except in emergency or illness).
• You are unwilling to provide 2 weeks' notice should you decide to end your work with us.
• You would like to be paid under the table or are unwilling to fill out an I-9, which is federally required of us as a household employer.

Duties

• Be alert and observant to monitor Dad's day-to-day health status and notify family/respond promptly to changes.
• Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and mobility support with mostly standby assistance (always at arm's length) using equipment like a gait belt and walker.
• Administer medications accurately following medical protocols while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
• Support client with traumatic brain injury/memory care needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
• Record vital signs and medical information.
• Assist with medical procedures as needed.
• Prepare nutritious meals
• Assist with light cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a clean, safe living space to promote overall well-being.
• Document Dad's daily activities meticulously to ensure alignment with Dad's established plan of care and rehabilitation goals.
• Use proper techniques and equipment for mobility assistance, including gait belt, walker, and other assistive devices.
• Communicate effectively with family regarding patient progress and any concerns related to medical or behavioral changes.

Desired Skills

• Strong experience with in-home care, focusing on senior care, memory care, and long-term care.
• Able and willing to reliably follow Dad and family's plan of recovery/care.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration, vital signs monitoring, and traumatic brain injury/memory care.
• Proficiency in working with individuals with disabilities requiring specialized support.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
• CPR certification and experience in emergency response procedures; ability to handle the care situation compassionately.
• Skilled in assisting with ADLs using appropriate techniques and equipment such as a gait belt and walker.
• Ability to perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and maintaining a safe environment.
• Excellent observational skills to monitor patient health status diligently; strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
