Duties

WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT (W&I) DIVISION? A description of the business units can be found at: Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Wage and Investment Customer Assistance, Relationship and Education. National Distribution Center, Logistics Section The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Performs a limited number of administrative tasks using an automated system which involves: assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; ordering research; acknowledging correspondence; maintaining, updating and initiating personnel records; timekeeping; and performing other support activity.
  • Assists in identifying and reviewing Forms W-2 attached to Forms 1040EZ and 1040PC for conditions meeting Criminal Investigation criteria and code the returns appropriately.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining regular production/inventory reports using established formats and sources of data applicable to the program, functional, or organizational reporting requirements. Prepares special reports as directed.
  • Reviews documents for specific requirements necessary for processing. Processes current year and/or prior year individual and/or business returns and related information.
  • Periodically reviews filed material in the light of ongoing programs or special projects and determines if such material should be consolidated, have new classifications, be retired, etc.

  • Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.   • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies .

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: BASIC REQUIREMENT : To qualify for this position at this grade level you must: Have one (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS -03) in the Federal government. General experience - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. OR Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school.Note: One full year of academic study is defined as 30 semester hours/45 quarter hours in an accredited junior college, college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school equaling 720 hours. OR An equivalent amount of combined education and experience. The equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total requirements. Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates.
