Job description:

First Baptist School of Charleston is looking for an experienced and reliable custodian/facilities specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining large facilities, as well as having knowledge of proper safety and security procedures. He or she will be responsible for keeping our school clean and organized, as well as setting up and breaking down classrooms and other areas for events.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform all custodial duties as assigned by the head custodian or school administrator, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms and locker rooms, and emptying trash
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment at all times
• Report any maintenance issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs to the head custodian or school administrator immediately
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations when handling cleaning supplies and equipment
• Follow all school policies and procedures
• Assist with set-up and break-down for school events as needed
• Keep storage areas and closets clean and organized
• Perform routine maintenance on custodial equipment
• Monitor supply levels and order new supplies as needed
• Train new custodial staff members as needed
• Attend all required meetings and trainings
• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience as a custodian or janitor
• Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
• Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
• Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
• Physical stamina and strength, able to lift 50+ pounds

As a requirement for employment, all employees must have a clear background check. As a Christian school, employees are required to sign the First Baptist School of Charleston Statement of Faith.
