Environmental Compliance Specialist

Environmental Compliance Specialist Position available at the Field Services and Compliance Bureau Field Office 1, located in Manchester, Iowa. The role involves providing environmental compliance assistance and enforcement throughout the northeast Iowa region. Key Responsibilities Conduct on‑site inspections of regulated facilities, including animal feeding operations, public water supplies, wastewater treatment plants, air pollution sources, storm water facilities, solid waste disposal sites, and underground storage tank facilities. Understand and apply state regulations, scientific principles, and technologies such as GIS and environmental sampling. Respond to emergency incidents and complaint situations. Prepare investigation reports, communicate findings to regulated parties, and coordinate with federal, state, county, and local officials. Assist facilities to achieve compliance with environmental regulations. Essential Functions Develop working knowledge of DNR environmental regulatory programs, policies, and procedures. Use computer software at a moderate to advanced level. Communicate clearly and concisely in technical and regulatory contexts. Work outdoors and perform physically demanding tasks: traverse rough terrain, climb ladders, stoop, bend, lift up to 25 lb. Possess a valid driver's license, travel frequently, and be available for 24/7 emergency response calls. Minimum Qualification Requirements Bachelor's Degree in a natural science from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of full‑time professional work in an environmental program for each year of required education (30 semester hours).
