Facility Overview

The VA Medical Center located in Leavenworth, Kansas, is an integral part of the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System. We offer a wide range of health care services to Veterans, including:

• Primary care
• Specialty care
• Mental health services
• Long-term care
• Rehabilitation

Established in 1885, our center is situated on a historic campus and serves thousands of Veterans from northeastern Kansas and nearby regions, including parts of Northwest Missouri and metropolitan Kansas City, as well as rural and tribal areas. We are proud to collaborate with the University of Kansas School of Medicine and local nursing and pharmacy schools to train the next generation of health professionals.

Facilities and Features

• Inpatient and Outpatient Care: 91 beds available for acute and long-term care, along with extensive outpatient services.
• Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs): Located in St. Joseph and Kansas City to enhance Veteran access to care.
• Historic Campus: Originally founded in 1885 for Civil War Veterans, several buildings on our campus are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Position Responsibilities

The primary care physician at our Leavenworth facility will be tasked with providing comprehensive, patient-focused medical care to Veterans. Key duties include:

• Diagnosing and managing both acute and chronic health conditions.
• Conducting preventive health screenings.
• Coordinating care within a multidisciplinary team.
• Referring patients to specialists as necessary.
• Maintaining precise medical records.
• Promoting overall wellness and patient education.
• Managing chronic diseases and advocating for the health needs of Veterans.

This role involves delivering preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care for a wide array of medical conditions. The physician will also create, implement, and revise personalized treatment plans for patients while ensuring coordinated health care for assigned Veterans.

Additional Responsibilities

• Serve as the clinical lead within a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), collaborating with nurses, social workers, mental health professionals, and pharmacists.
• Engage in team-based care to ensure effective communication and continuity of services.

Working Conditions

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with no on-call duties or weekend shifts.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $250,000 and $315,000.
