Psychiatrist

Overview

The board-certified psychiatrist at Rhode Island State Psychiatric Hospital (RISPH) is responsible for delivering direct psychiatric care within an inpatient forensic setting, ensuring adherence to established standards of psychiatric practice. This role involves active participation as a member of a multidisciplinary team and includes a broad range of responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Conducting psychiatric evaluations, including admission, assessment, and diagnosis
• Providing treatment for both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions
• Managing complex and high-risk forensic cases
• Developing and implementing individualized disposition and treatment plans
• Obtaining civil court orders when necessary for treatment over objection or to facilitate patient engagement during disposition planning
• Interacting with psychiatric fellows and trainees in a teaching facility (formal supervision or instructional duties are not required)

Qualifications and Experience

• Ideal candidate: Board-Certified in Psychiatry; MD/DO with Active License in Rhode Island; forensic fellowship training preferred
• Alternative qualifications: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) accepted in place of MD; correctional psychiatry experience considered
• Education/Training: Medical school graduation with fellowship training in forensic psychiatry
• Experience: 1–3 years preferred; inpatient experience highly preferred
