English and Mandarin Chinese required Position Summary Stanford Advanced Materials is seeking an experienced bilingual Senior Accountant to manage domestic accounting operations and coordinate monthly accounting and financial reporting with the company's finance and accounting teams in China. This hands-on role owns key portions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, financial reporting, and the monthly and year-end close. The Senior Accountant will also prepare consolidated financial statements for U.S. and international operations, reconcile intercompany activity, support multi-currency accounting, and help management understand inventory, landed cost, gross margin, cash flow, and order-level profitability. The successful candidate will combine strong accounting fundamentals with clear bilingual communication and the ability to coordinate accurately across entities, systems, and time zones. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monthly Close, Consolidation, and Reporting Lead assigned portions of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and maintain a disciplined monthly close calendar. Coordinate reporting deadlines, account schedules, and close deliverables with accounting personnel in China and other international locations. Collect, review, validate, and consolidate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules from U.S. and international entities. Prepare consolidated balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow statements, and management reporting packages each month. Prepare journal entries, accruals, adjustments, reclassifications, foreign-currency translation entries, and intercompany eliminations. Analyze revenue, expenses, gross margin, working capital, cash flow, and balance-sheet variances; explain material movements to management. Ensure revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities are recorded completely and in the correct accounting period. International and Intercompany Accounting Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting liaison between the U.S. and China finance teams, communicating financial requirements in English and Mandarin Chinese. Reconcile intercompany purchases, sales, transfers, service charges, payments, receivables, payables, and other balances monthly. Investigate intercompany differences and obtain timely correction before the consolidated books are closed. Account for transactions denominated in USD, RMB, and other currencies, including realized and unrealized foreign‑exchange gains and losses. Translate foreign-currency financial information into U.S. dollars and maintain support for exchange rates and translation adjustments. Assist with aligning international accounting records with U.S. GAAP and company policies, including documentation of conversion or adjustment entries. Support transfer-pricing schedules and cross-border tax documentation in coordination with management and outside advisors. General Ledger and Account Reconciliation Maintain the general ledger and review account activity for accuracy, completeness, and unusual transactions. Prepare monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, payment processors, inventory, fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, deposits, and other balance-sheet accounts. Maintain fixed-asset and depreciation schedules and supporting documentation. Identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies before financial statements are finalized. Maintain organized audit-ready records and appropriate supporting documentation for all material entries and reconciliations. Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Oversee the accurate processing, coding, approval, and recording of domestic and international vendor invoices. Verify invoices against purchase orders, receiving records, supplier terms, approved pricing, and applicable shipping or customs documentation. Prepare vendor payments, reconcile vendor statements, monitor due dates, and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies. Prepare customer invoices and credit memos, record and apply payments, and reconcile customer accounts. Monitor receivables, prepare aging reports, follow up on past-due balances, and coordinate collection issues with sales and management. Account for customer deposits, supplier prepayments, refunds, credits, and unapplied cash. Inventory, Landed Cost, and Gross Margin Reconcile inventory records among the accounting system, warehouses, purchasing records, goods in transit, and international entities. Calculate and maintain landed costs, including material cost, machining or processing, international freight, customs duties, tariffs, brokerage, insurance, and related import charges. Review commercial invoices, purchase orders, packing lists, customs entries, freight invoices, and receiving documentation for accounting accuracy. Calculate and analyze cost of goods sold and gross profit by product, customer, sales order, and business entity. Prepare monthly inventory, cost-of-goods-sold, slow-moving inventory, and gross-margin reports for management. Account for inventory in transit, work in process, custom-manufactured products, supplier prepayments, and inventory adjustments. Support physical inventory counts and investigate differences between physical quantities and accounting records. Revenue Recognition and Order Accounting Review sales orders, customer deposits, shipping records, acceptance requirements, and contract terms to recognize revenue in the appropriate period. Interpret the accounting impact of international shipping terms and Incoterms, including EXW, FOB, DAP, and DDP. Track the accounting status of custom and special-order products from supplier prepayment through shipment, delivery, customer billing, and collection. Identify orders with missing costs, delayed invoices, unusual margins, credits, returns, or other profitability risks and coordinate corrective action. Compliance, Controls, and Business Support Support financial audits, income-tax preparation, sales-tax filings, VAT information requests, and other regulatory or compliance requirements. Coordinate accounting support for customs, duties, tariffs, and import transactions without serving as the company's trade‑compliance decision maker. Develop and improve accounting procedures, monthly close checklists, reconciliations, documentation standards, and internal controls. Partner with sales, procurement, logistics, warehouse operations, and management to resolve billing, purchasing, inventory, shipping, and margin discrepancies. Monitor customer deposits, vendor prepayments, inventory commitments, receivables, and payables to support cash-flow and working‑capital planning. Perform other accounting analyses and projects as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. Five or more years of progressive professional accounting experience, including hands‑on month-end close and general ledger responsibility. Professional fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese, including the ability to discuss accounting matters and review financial documentation verbally and in writing. Demonstrated experience preparing or supporting consolidated financial statements for multiple entities. Experience with intercompany accounting, elimination entries, multi-currency transactions, and foreign‑currency translation. Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statements, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, AP, and AR. Experience with inventory, landed-cost, cost‑of‑goods‑sold, or product‑based accounting. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, reconciliations, and analysis of large data sets. Experience using an ERP or accounting platform and the ability to learn new systems quickly. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to meet recurring deadlines with limited supervision. Preferred Qualifications CPA or CMA certification, active or in progress. Experience coordinating accounting activities between U.S. and China entities. Familiarity with Chinese Accounting Standards and reconciliation to U.S. GAAP. Accounting experience in advanced materials, manufacturing, distribution, e‑commerce, international trade, or custom‑engineered products. Experience with inventory valuation, landed cost, import transactions, Incoterms, and order‑level profitability. Experience with multiple legal entities, international consolidations, and cross‑border transactions. Actual compensation will depend on the candidate's experience, qualifications, language proficiency, certifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
