About the job Nurse Practitioner

Nurse Practitioner

Kodiak Community Health Center | Kodiak, Alaska
Full-Time | Salary Based on Experience

Start Here

Rural Staffing Services® (RSS) is honored to partner with Kodiak Community Health Center in the search for its next Nurse Practitioner.

Please apply directly through this posting so the RSS team can thoughtfully guide you through the process, answer your questions, and ensure your experience and interest are presented directly to the leadership team at Kodiak Community Health Center.

This is more than a job opening. It is an opportunity to practice meaningful medicine, care for an entire community, and build a life in one of the most extraordinary places in Alaska.

This Is More Than a Nurse Practitioner Role

Some healthcare positions are defined by productivity goals and patient counts.

This one is defined by people.

Kodiak Community Health Center is seeking a compassionate and community-minded Nurse Practitioner who believes primary care is about more than treating an illness. It is about listening, educating, building trust, and caring for the whole person.

You will provide comprehensive primary care to a diverse patient population while working alongside a collaborative team that values personal accountability, respectful communication, cultural awareness, and kindness.

This is an opportunity for a provider who wants to know the people they serve, become part of the community, and see the impact of their work every day.

Why Kodiak?

Kodiak is the kind of place that stays with you.

Known as Alaska's Emerald Isle, Kodiak Island is surrounded by ocean, mountains, forests, and some of the most remarkable wildlife in the world. Life here offers access to hiking, fishing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, photography, and outdoor adventures that most people only experience during a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

But the real beauty of Kodiak is its people.

This is a close-knit, resilient, and culturally rich community where neighbors know one another, local relationships matter, and healthcare providers become an important part of the fabric of island life.

The Kodiak Island Borough, including Kodiak and six surrounding villages, is home to approximately 13,000 residents. The community is accessible by commercial air service and the Alaska Marine Highway.

Come for the breathtaking landscape. Stay because your work, your presence, and your relationships truly matter.

About Kodiak Community Health Center

Kodiak Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving the diverse communities of Kodiak Island.

Its mission is clear:

We exist to provide compassionate and comprehensive primary care to the entire Kodiak community.

KCHC believes healthcare should be grounded in compassion, access, and connection. The organization serves patients regardless of their ability to pay and is committed to improving the health and well-being of the entire community.

The health center's vision is:

Working together to achieve ultimate health and well-being.

This vision comes to life through a team culture built around personal accountability, respect, compassion, collaboration, communication, and a commitment to going above and beyond for both patients and colleagues.

What You Will Do

As a Nurse Practitioner, you will deliver high-quality primary care in accordance with current professional standards, Alaska law, federal regulations, KCHC policies and procedures, and the established scope of practice.

You will:
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage the primary healthcare needs of KCHC patients.
  • Provide compassionate, culturally respectful, and evidence-based care across the patient population.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, timely, and legible documentation for every patient encounter.
  • Educate patients about their health, treatment options, prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Work collaboratively with the Medical Director, Clinical Director, fellow providers, clinical staff, and community partners.
  • Participate in regular chart reviews, peer review, quality assurance, and quality improvement activities.
  • Identify and actively correct opportunities for improvement found through quality reviews.
  • Obtain appropriate consultation, collaboration, or supervision when required for patient care or clinical procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of professional standards of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Pursue continuing medical education relevant to the needs of KCHC's patient population.
  • Attend provider meetings and participate in group processes established by the Medical Director.
  • Support community health education through presentations, panel discussions, articles, public service announcements, and other outreach activities.
  • Represent and support KCHC at community events, including occasional volunteer activities on behalf of the organization.
  • Work cooperatively and positively with internal team members and external agencies.
  • Adjust schedules when reasonably needed to support patient access, organizational operations, and provider-team coverage.
  • Perform additional responsibilities that support the mission and vision of Kodiak Community Health Center.
The primary employment location will be the KCHC medical clinic. Work may also occur at the KCHC administrative building or other locations where KCHC provides services. Remote work may be permitted when approved by organizational leadership.

What You Will Bring

Education
  • Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution, or
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice from an accredited institution.
Experience
  • At least one year of direct patient-care experience is required.
  • Primary care, family practice, community health, rural health, or Federally Qualified Health Center experience is valued.
Licensure and Certification
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Alaska, or the ability to obtain Alaska licensure.
  • Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification upon hire, or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
Professional Qualities

The successful candidate will also bring:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to develop positive working relationships with patients, leadership, providers, clinical staff, and community partners.
  • Respect for different cultures, backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
  • A collaborative and solution-focused approach.
  • The ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
  • Sound professional judgment and personal accountability.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
  • The ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • A genuine desire to care for people, strengthen a team, and become part of the Kodiak community.
The KCHC Way

At Kodiak Community Health Center, how care is delivered matters just as much as the care itself.

Team members are expected to:
  • Take responsibility for their actions and their impact on the team.
  • Address differences directly, respectfully, and constructively.
  • Honor and respect every culture.
  • Ask questions before making assumptions.
  • Listen to understand and learn before reacting.
  • Give patients and colleagues the benefit of the doubt.
  • Communicate with appropriate words, tone, and body language.
  • Help teammates succeed.
  • Treat feedback as an opportunity for improvement.
  • Demonstrate kindness at all times.
  • Make patient safety a priority.
  • Seek solutions rather than assign blame.
  • Treat patients as people, not illnesses.
  • Listen carefully to concerns and respond in a timely manner.
  • Go above and beyond for patients, teammates, and the community.

Why This Role Matters

Primary care is often the front door to the entire healthcare system.

In an island community, that front door carries even greater importance.

The Nurse Practitioner joining KCHC will help patients receive timely care, manage chronic conditions, understand their health, access preventive services, and feel known and respected throughout their healthcare experience.

Your work will strengthen more than a clinic. It will strengthen families, improve access, and help an entire community remain healthier and more connected.

A Place to Practice, Serve, and Belong

This position is for someone who wants more than a change of scenery.

It is for a provider who wants meaningful relationships, professional purpose, a supportive team, and the opportunity to practice in a place where their contribution will be seen and valued.

Kodiak offers the rare combination of extraordinary wilderness and genuine community. At Kodiak Community Health Center, you will have the opportunity to do important work while building a life surrounded by natural beauty, culture, connection, and adventure.

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's education, experience, credentials, and overall qualifications.

How to Apply
