Job Requirements The Trauma Resuscitation Unit at the University of Maryland Medical Center’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our fast‑paced, high‑acuity team. This 13‑bed unit serves as the critical entry point for the region’s most severely injured patients, providing immediate, life‑saving care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, the ability to thrive under pressure, and a commitment to excellence in trauma nursing. Nurses in this role work alongside leading trauma surgeons, physicians, and support staff to deliver rapid assessment, stabilization, and resuscitative interventions for critically ill and injured patients, making a direct and meaningful impact on patient outcomes every day. Candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience in trauma‑based nursing. Education and Experience Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland (or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements). Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education per year. Member of a professional organization. Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Demonstrated ability to lead others, such as effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource, and as a multidisciplinary team member. Ability to learn and use computer systems to manage patient information. Ability to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served and assess data relative to the population‑specific and age‑specific needs. Demonstrated/documented highly effective interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills. Patient Safety Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
