Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience in critical care, including CRRT and IABP; travel experience Description: Unit has 18 beds, which will expand to 27 beds by June/July 2023. Ratios are typically 1 nurse to 2 patients, sometimes 3 patients due to overflow or downgrading. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. NIHSS requirement has been removed. Preferred certifications include PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC. Common diagnoses include critically ill patients with complex needs and life-threatening conditions. Specific conditions managed include sepsis, acute myocardial infarction, and renal issues. Patients may include post-vascular procedure individuals, stroke patients, and those with seizures. Procedures can involve lumbar drains, ARDS requiring ventilator management, and cardiovascular procedures. Nurses will titrate critical medication drips, such as levophed, cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, and insulin. Charge Nurse supervises without a patient load, and there is a hospitalist present 24/7. Intensivists may not be available at all times. Respiratory Therapists are not stationed in the unit but are readily available when needed. Unit has telemetry and no Monitor Technician; RNs read the telemetry strips. Schedule includes shifts from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm or from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am. Block scheduling is potentially available, especially for night shifts. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, either Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Monday. Holiday rotation is required with core staff members. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to Stepdown is required, and if not needed there, floating to Med-Surg/Telemetry may occur. Travelers will float in rotation but not always first. Dress code includes solid color scrubs with no embroidery or patterns. Only closed-toe shoes are permitted. Initial skills checklist is due within 90 days of the start date. Charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Trauma Level is unspecified. Care setting is acute care.
