Responsibilities These roles evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory therapists provide oxygen therapy, manage ventilators, conduct breathing exercises, and monitor lung function to ensure patients receive optimal respiratory care. Responsibilities include diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, face‑to‑face interactions, designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services, and utilizing specialized knowledge and skills. Basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience is required; work under moderate supervision; problems are routine but may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. Minimum Requirements Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy educational program. Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy required within 5 years of hire/transfer for all hires/transfers after 2019. Experience: 12 months of acute/critical care respiratory therapy clinical experience. License/Certification: Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with NBRC; licensed to practice in Virginia; AHA BLS required; Active NBRC specialty credential required within 2 years of hire for medical center respiratory therapists; ACLS required for TCH respiratory therapists within 3 months. Physical Demands Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, bending/stooping. Proficient communication, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease. The starting base rate is $34.01 hourly. Compensation will be determined by qualifications, experience, and education.
