Position OverviewProvide senior technical integration and hands-on engineering leadership across multiple process, equipment, facility, and production workstreams. This role translates program objectives involving multiple unit operations into practical engineering requirements and helps technical teams move safely and efficiently from concept and pilot work through commissioning, qualification, and production release to full scale manufacturing.

This position will lead one or more company growth programs involving facility expansion, process design and scale-up, equipment installation and commissioning, recovery and separation of complex critical material mixtures, and transition of new or improved processes into sustained production. Responsibilities are overarching and will evolve by project phase to include P&ID design, requirements development, vendor coordination, ES&H priorities, pilot trials, qualification, documentation, training, production support, and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities●       Lead or coordinate multidisciplinary engineering work involving multiple chemical processing, metal recovery, thermal operations, solids handling, filtration, utilities, and supporting plant systems.

●       Translate process needs into functional, performance, equipment, utility, layout, materials-of-construction, instrumentation, and safety requirements.

●       Develop and review process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation information, layouts, equipment specifications, vendor proposals, calculations, and commissioning plans.

●       Lead technical vendor evaluation, factory testing, capital equipment selection, installation, utility tie-ins, dry runs, and startup.

●       Plan and oversee installation qualification, operational qualification, and performance qualification activities, including protocols, acceptance criteria, deviations, and closeout records.

●       Integrate work across plant leadership, subteam leads, chemists, engineers, maintenance, production, quality, ESH, procurement, and program management.

●       Lead technical risk reviews, root-cause investigations, design changes, management-of-change activities, and corrective actions.

●       Use pilot and production data to evaluate throughput, recovery, yield, product quality, reliability, waste generation, and operating cost.

●       Review and approve SOPs, technical reports, training materials, schedules, decision packages, and project status inputs.

●       Mentor engineers and technical staff and help establish consistent engineering and project execution practices.

Education, Training and Experience●       Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, metallurgical, materials, manufacturing, or related engineering discipline. 

●       15+ years of relevant industrial engineering, capital project, commissioning, or manufacturing experience; an advanced degree may substitute for part of the experience.

●       Demonstrated experience taking equipment or processes from requirements and design through startup and sustained operation.

●       Working knowledge of industrial chemical or metals processing, materials compatibility, process safety, utilities, equipment reliability, and production controls.

●       Experience leading technical reviews and coordinating multiple engineering disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications●       Professional Engineer license, project management credential, or Lean/Six Sigma training.

●       Experience in metal refining, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, specialty chemicals, advanced materials, or high-temperature processing.

●       Experience with corrosive services, high-alloy equipment, furnaces, filtration, reactors, scrubbers, and/or controlled-atmosphere systems.

●       Experience supporting ISO 9001.

●       Able to manage and schedule the work of multiple direct reports.

●       Demonstrates sound judgment, attention to detail, initiative, and commitment to safe, ethical work.

●       Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn company systems.

●       Able to protect confidential, proprietary, customer, and controlled project information.

Work Environment and Other Requirements●       This is an on-site position and is not eligible for a fully remote work schedule. Some hybrid work situations may occur.

●       Work will require movement between offices, laboratories, production areas, warehouses, construction areas, and vendor sites.

●       Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with chemical, industrial, and facility safety rules.

●       Occasional travel, schedule flexibility, or work during commissioning and plant shutdown activities may be required.

●       Must be a U.S. citizen due to project and contractual requirements.
