Discovery and Engagement Librarian, Assistant Professor

Lycoming College is searching for a Discovery and Engagement Librarian, Assistant Professor to join their Academic Affairs team!

The  Discovery and Engagement Librarian, Assistant Professor is a full-time, 12-month position that advances Lycoming College's educational mission by connecting students, faculty, and staff with library resources, services, and expertise through innovative teaching, research support, outreach, and discovery initiatives. Serves as the library's leader for information literacy instruction, learning partnerships, user engagement, and resource discovery while promoting equitable access to information and fostering student success.

What will I do in this role?  

TEACHING, LEARNING & RESEARCH SUPPORT

• Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of the library's information literacy program.
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate research skills and information literacy into courses, assignments, and curricula.
• Design and teach engaging instructional sessions using active learning strategies
• Develop online tutorials, LibGuides, research guides, and instructional materials.
• Provide research consultations and reference services to students, faculty, and staff.
• Support First-Year Experience initiatives and collaborate on campus-wide student success programs.
• Provide faculty development related to research, library resources, instructional technologies, and assignment design.

DISCOVERY & USER ENGAGEMENT

• Promote discovery and effective use of library collections, databases, and digital resources.
• Develop and maintain subject guides and user-centered discovery tools.
• Collaborate with library colleagues to improve access, usability, and user experience of library systems.
• Plan and coordinate outreach initiatives, events, and programming that increase awareness and use of library services.
• Develop marketing and communication materials across print, web, and social media.
• Gather user feedback through surveys, focus groups, and assessment to improve services.

ASSESSMENT & INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS



 

• Assess instruction, outreach, and student learning using evidence-informed practices.
• Collect, analyze, and communicate evidence demonstrating the library's impact on student learning and institutional priorities.
• Participate in accreditation activities, strategic planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments and collaborate on collection development, Open Educational Resources initiatives, and scholarly communication.

COMMON RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LIBRARY FACULTY



 

• Participate in reference services, committee work, campus governance, and academic advising as assigned.
• Contribute to library planning and decision-making.
• Maintain professional expertise through scholarship, service, and professional development.
• Represent the library in campus, regional, and national professional organizations as appropriate.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Library Services.

What Are We Looking For?

Required Experience and Qualifications :

• • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited graduate school or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching in an information literacy instruction program and designing inclusive instructional materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships with the campus’s student body, faculty, and staff who come from diverse backgrounds.
  • Eagerness to provide an inclusive and equitable library environment by learning about the campus’s needs and making recommendations to change services, policies, and procedures based on those needs.
  • Exhibits initiative on independent projects and works collaboratively with other librarians and library staff.
  • Organizational and time management skills that demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects of varying scopes and priorities.
  • Knowledge of current trends and up-to-date practices related to providing inclusive reference services.

Preferred Qualifications:

• • Familiarity with and experience using the ACRL Framework in information literacy instruction.
  • Experience teaching and developing inclusive instruction practices for either in-person or online settings.
  • Experience with providing reference to individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Springshare’s LibGuides platform.
  • Experience designing and planning inclusive library outreach programs.
  • Knowledge of or experience with creating engaging marketing content for a professional organization.
  • Knowledge of best practices within OER.
